I feel like the odds of AW staying with Arsenal in some capacity after leaving as manager are pretty high. So maybe they can just keep both and get a new manager?
What a load of horseshit. Wenger retires, we hire a new guy. He meets with Ozil, who thinks "This new guy knows what he's doing" and everything is fine. Except he wants more money. That's the problem.
From what I read, he said Wenger brought him to Arsenal but Özil just wants to know who the manager will be. He isn't demanding the clown.
There won't be much opportunity to meet "the new guy" if Ozil doesn't sign a contract now and gets moved on because Arsenal want a transfer fee.
I think this is more a case of Ozil staying if Wenger stays, and keeping his options open if Wenger leaves.

Saw that piece. I think it corroborates what we've said: that Alexis doesn't run in behind, so Ozil has no one central to pass to.
I don't have any stats to prove it, but it's my impression that Ozil is ripunning in behind the defense more often than he has in the past, which represents a slight change in his role.
I've suggested it, but the spacing gets really weird. Issue is that he and Alexis end up in the same space. That's been the big problem with Ozil this season.
Ozil had a record production only last season! I feel like Wenger is breaking things that were working. Maybe if only the Manager could actually fix the defence
I agree with this. Ramsey has been inconsistent. With both Wilshere and Rosicky gone, we really do not have anyone that can run at defenders and manage attacks the way Cazorla did. Especially the way we play now with a deeper line, there is not a whole hell lot of space when we win the ball back in our own half in the immediate vicinity. So, we are contend with playing more and more longer balls. Perhaps Wenger realizing that wanted Vardy. With Cazorla/Cesc you could keep the ball for a few extra seconds and get others involved in the attack. Wing play from FBs have been pi$$ poor this season too complicating matters.
Interesting article about Wenger moving to 4-3-3 and the impact on Ozil However this kind of begs the question of why, given Ozil's record season last season, you would then remodel the squad for 4-3-3? Surely the whole point was to find a doppel sechs that works. This is what frustrates so much Arsenal really should play 3 central midfielders but also have to play Mesut Özil. What gives? unrelated to the topic at hand, but maybe, MAYBE, you could get some glory for the first time since Sol, Barmby and Klinsmann were at your place.
We didn't win the league last year. I don't know why Ozil playing wide would mean we expect him to track defenders in our defensive 3rd or that he is chained to the wide area? Play him on the right with Bellerin and allow Bellerin to overlap. Bellerin' best form came with Joel Campbell out right. Then you ask Ozil to press that half space when a fullback has the ball in that zone. It's above Wenger but that's how Löw was using Ozil at Euros last summer. His best match for Germany came on the right.
