In hindsight, Asensio has greatly benefited from summers' transfer window. He would've ended up like Kova if Ronaldo stayed or if Hazard joined RM.

The club gave little importance to the number is what I understood from Mariano when he was asked about this. They simply asked him what shirt do you want from the ones that are available and he said the 7, and that was the end of it. If Asensio wanted it he would have grabbed it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. There are players earning 4 times as much as he does, have spent about a decade at the club, and demand to be the leaders. People interpret it any way they want, but the truth is asking a player who isn't even a fixed starter to take responsibility for the situation is pretty comical.
