Cellino massively overplayed his hand with the whole Nianggolan thing. Even though he hates Roma I think he could have used the money and he's regretting playing such a hard line. I personally never was to bothered with him, I think he's a bit overrated, still he would have improved us. I don't think Cellino actually believed that Roma would go with Plan B and spend big on a player outside of Italy when we were trying to swap players to get him. Oooopz..........
I rate him between 14.5-15.5 from a non-calculated or researched estimate. Just by my feeling from the market. I've been watching most of Cagliari's games so far and he has been doing really well again. I follow him on twitter too, cool dude.
I think gameover was right, €10m alright, anything over that and no thanks. He's not actually that special there's loads of players of his type out there.
Funny him as photoshopped as Superman made me realize he sort of looks like the actor who plays Captain America.
Oops Hopefully he doesn't return a 12m player tho............................ My favourite player from last season. I honestly believe we could have pushed those shits all the way last season were it not for his and Balza's injuries.
I'm struggling to understand the point of this? At the time we were discussing the merits of the Nianggolan fee and the high valuation of Cellino. Hindsight is 20/20 but I still don't think he was worth what Cagliari were asking for him at the time when you consider the market on his type of player then and now. Clearly shown by this thread were a speculative €17m got us one of the best midfielders in the world when healthy. That's not to say that a player costing €10m couldn't ever increase in value but at the time the discussion was meet Cagliari's demands for Nianggolan or sign Strootman. Are you saying we should have passed on Strootman to pay €15m-€20m for Nianggolan as Cellino was asking for at the time (and wasn't playing ball with the swap offers)?
Just to add, in the end we got him for €9m. A good deal and one I would have agree with at that time (if it didn't hinder the Strootman transfer). He was being valued at €15m or more and Cellino was being a dick about potential swaps, that's why we moved onto Strootman. Also, by special I meant specifically his type of midfielder. For his type of midfielder there's a lot of players available out there for a similar price. Take Tottenham for example, Capoue was bad last season for many reasons but this year he's been one of the most effective midfielders in England and he cost €10m. Once you get into the €15m is range the options open up greatly and players like Strootman become obtainable, guys with a world class upside.
I'm just pointing out that I was right in saying that Nainggolan was worth much more than your and everyone else's 10m E max. Just teasing.
It turns out so and I'm happy for it. However, market value changes at that time he wasn't worth what Cellino was asking considering all the factors. I mean I think Strootman is worth over €40m but that doesn't mean spending €25m for him at the time would have been justified at that time. For me at least.
For a moment I confused Strootman's nickname and almost referred to him as "KDS" which is an acronym for "King Daddy Strap" ....
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10203817956346071 Kevin looks pissed. I wonder if this was when someone said something about Ljajic.
I didn't think Nainggolan was going to be as good as he is, but yeah, we were all praying for Strootman when those rumors were spinning. Turns out, Cellino got left out in the cold by screwing around with us, and we got them both anyway.
Radja has impressed from the first minute in his first ever game. I remember being excited and seeing how much of an upgrade he was over Bradley after about 20 mins and I had an MLS fan crying at me for judging so soon. It wasnt long before that they though he would still be starting over Strootman though
