The last chance he had to be a fair weather player was this season playing for a poor Stoke side - instead he led them with a combined 15 goals and assists and was their only player to emerge from the season with credit.

Had a good season in a poor Stoke team.
    Played well at the WC.
Can play multiple positions in our system.
Klopp wanted him and got him.

All good enough reasons for me.

You were the first to mention Shaquiri as a pontential signing, and I was underwhelmed at first. However, when I heard about his release clause my opinion changed. That price made it, as Klopp called it, a “no brainer.” He’s exactly what the squad need at a fair price.

Other potential signings were likely put off by how good our front 3 is, knowing they would not get in the team. To sign a player on the level of our current front 3 would be insanely expensive. This was the perfect solution.

See Özil stats and him de-surfacing in the big games. Im not saying Shaqiri is not a decent player who cant deliver. Im saying I wouldnt trust in him doing so

Nah - he will be an excellent signing for us - and can beat those low block denfensive teams.

And has a major league free kick in him.

Some people have suggested that Shaquiri could be for Klopp what Yossi Benayoun was for Rafa.

I think he's full of himself, too, and dislike the preening but we shall see.

when Klopp signed Milner I rolled my eyes and shook my head ....
when Klopp signed Robertson I rolled my eyes and shook my head ....
when Klopp signed Ox I rolled my eyes and shook my head ....

I've stopped doing that now. :)

all have been superb, shrewd signings that other teams have been kicking themselves over. at this point, no reason to think Shaq will be any different.

All fair comments here, once again I'll rely upon Klopp to have seen a role for Shaqiri and made a canny business move to get him in at this price level.

If we haven't learned to trust Klopp yet, what are we even doing?

XS is a decent attacking option to have off the bench and is talented enough to cover the wide positions in the front when we need to rotate and/or in the event of injury. He's always looked in in the Swiss team when surrounded by better players. He looks really happy to be here and the boys seem happy to have him.

We aren't building around him, but these are the types of moves which can help the team succeed.

What - we're going to sign Dirk Kuyt as a tricky winger and have Shaquiri watch him from the bench...?

remember when we played stoke at the end of the season, and lambert played for a point when they basically needed three straight wins to survive? I think lambert has it out for us when we passed him over for manager and signed rodgers instead. Wanted to get one over on us. They were regulated, we get shaqiri for peanuts. Thanks for being a jackass, Paul.
