    From FB:

He should appoint Ernie Merrick as his assistant, then we can have Bert and Ernie leading us to Russia!

I'm comfortable with this choice. We have appointed someone with good international experience, and as he was an opposing coach in the qualifying campaign someone who would already have studied or players, our systems and our strengths and weaknesses.

Agree. The best choice at the last minute, because apart from someone like Arnie, three friendlies beforehand wouldn't be long enough for someone totally new to Asian football & Australia to get to know all of our players and their idiosyncrasies before the World Cup.

Well played FFA. Lets hope Bert can get the job done.

We've welcomed Bert, and now we will bid him farewell once the world cup is over. Graham Arnold will take over after that to the surprise of nobody.

Ridiculous timing. Not sure what the FFA are thinking. So if BVM does well, we let him go anyway?

He was only ever signed as a short term coach. I'm sure he will have no trouble finding a job post world cup. Probably already has one lined up and just took this on to fill in the few months vacancy he had.
