I just skimmed it, but it actually looks like he put a lot of research into it; just to tell us something nearly everyone on the planet already knows. (btw has there ever been an article about MLS that didn't include the phrase, "If MLS wants to be taken seriously..."?) However, I love this irony. At the bottom of the article was this: RECOMMENDED STORIES A New Study Outlines The Positives Of Having Promotion And Relegation In US Soccer 2016 MLS Attendance Makes It The Sixth-Most-Attended League In The World
Yeah, I wasn't going to dignify that piece of sewage by commenting, but since you took the onus upon yourself: What an asshole. It's like a term paper where you're really impressed that the kid did the work but ended up trying to use it to support a truly dumb hypothesis.
Well I'm not looking to vilify the guy. Merely think the topic discounts the business realities involved and the progress MLS has made. Look at the low end wages 5 years ago! Meanwhile, comparing MLS salaries to those in the Prem?! They're both soccer leagues that speak English, so, yeah, I guess that's an appropriate basis. Okay, I'm done taking us off topic.
Wonder how they compare with the A-League, if we're thinking of soccer leagues that both speak English.
Well actually I've been saving this for a rainy day, but, well, it looks like it might rain later on so what the hell: Here's how our buds down under do it: First, there are some truly MLS-ish kickers, such as: · A Loyalty Player gives clubs a sliding scale of Salary Cap relief for players who have played between 5-10 years at the club. The total amount that can be spent on Loyalty Players is $200,000 outside the Salary Cap. · Clubs can pay a Mature Age Rookie outside the Salary Cap to encourage talented players in the National Premier Leagues. This player must be over the age of 21, not played in a fully professional competition for the last 18 months and last played football in Australia. This player must be paid at least the Minimum Salary. · The existing Home Grown Player allowance outside the Salary Cap has lifted from $150,000 to $200,000. Each Club can include three players who started their careers with the Club, either through the Youth System of the Hyundai A-League squad. · The two Marquee Players (which sit outside the Salary Cap) can now be two foreigners, two Australians or one Australian and one foreigner. This has changed from Two Marquee Players whereby at least one must be Australian. · Salary Cap Banking will allow clubs to carry over money not spent inside the Salary Cap in the previous two seasons to the following season, up to 105% of the Salary Cap in the relevant contract year. · The Salary Cap floor (minimum amount that needs to be spent) lifts from 85% to 90%. · The length of the maximum stint for a Guest Player has increased from 10 to 14 weeks. · The Minimum Annual Salary for players aged over 21 years has risen from $51,000 to $55,000. And, best of all, they're currently hashing out a CBA. I wish them luck. 2015/16 Salary Cap breakdown: Salary Cap $2.55 million Salary Cap floor (85% to 90%) $2.29 million Salary Cap Banking $127,500 maximum Home Grown Players (3 players) $200,000 Loyalty Players (unlimited players) $200,000 Mature Age Rookie $55,000 minimum Two Marquee Players Unlimited- One Guest Player (Up to 14 weeks) -

This is close to MLS salaries except it isn't. TAM and HGP puts the actual league money available to a club at close to $6 million.
Bill, I assume those amounts are in AUD? 1 USD - 1.3 AUD, so the numbers look even worse in comparison
And MLS doesn't have a Salary Cap, but instead a Salary Budget that only covers the league (non-TAM/GAM paid down) 18-20 First Team players and not the other 8-10 development players (which can be highly paid GA/HG players).
