Judging by the headlines we sure do have a lot of flops playing in MLS.

Soccer writer Mike Goodman laid off at ESPN. I admit that the name did not stick out for me. So far as I know, no on-air soccer people laid off yet

This is just the beginning, but the biggest for me so far is:

    I appreciated Brett McMurphy.

So the narrative has changed? We're no longer the retirement league but the flop league?

Is this advancement or, hopefully, we don't care anyways what they think?

This is why I think design constraints make for some of the most character-filled stadiums. Due to not being able to re-route the street (or the light rail line), they're basically going straight up, creating an Opera House-style effect.

I imagine those seats are going to be very expensive, being as they'll be a great place to see. . . and be seen.

Seems like the biggest blood-bath is coming on the NHL side--during the Stanley Cup playoffs, no less. Just call ESPN the "Worldwide" leader of covering the NFL and NBA (and sometimes MLB) from now on.

I’ll miss the wooden roofline. I also think they can easily and less expensively add seats to the scoreboard end. I wonder if there are issues relating to blocking the building behind it? Certainly the people in the health club would miss watching games from their stair steppers.

They'd be cheaper to build, but fwiw also not really premium seats. And I think it's moot because . . .

Yes, I believe the athletic club essentially owns the property on that end.

The seats they are adding will be worth more than end seats.

Hahaha right? I forgot that Jozy and Bradley played for those shit bag clubs. Is Villa or Sunderland in the premier league now? I do not watch the EPL any longer so I would not know.

They seem to have sufficient demand for that.

Yeah, I like the roof they put on the east side stand, too, but can't complain about the ambition and design! And I'll bet that the final product will look very much like the images they just released. Regarding the south end, yes the MAC is in control there. Any changes made to the stadium have to be approved by them as well as the city of Portland, which owns the stadium. It's weird, but that's the deal.

The bottom line is that I'm in favor of anything that keeps them in that stadium - the best location of any MLS stadium I've been to
