You know, in a league that already contains (among others) Seattle and the LA Galaxy, that's an impressive statement, when you think about it.
Where #TFC would rank in total payroll at $26,559,206 in European leagues where data was available..🏴2nd in Scottish Premiership🇫🇷8th of 20 in Ligue 1🇪🇸12th of 20 in La Liga🇩🇪13th of 18 in Bundesliga🇮🇹15th of 20 in Serie A🏴Premier League- $8 million away from last place— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) January 16, 2019
Where the average MLS salary sits compared to Europe6. Turkey🇹🇷- $864,0537. Belgium🇧🇪- $402,9418. MLS🇺🇸🇨🇦- $375,2579. Portugal🇵🇹- $357,54010. Switzerland🇨🇭- $324,02011. Netherlands🇳🇱- $323,48812. Austria🇦🇹- $233,11013. Scotland🏴- $231,891— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) January 16, 2019 This guy has been posting some great stuff on twitter. MLS is obviously moving up the food chain.... That said: If MLS were to spend just 50% of their revenues on salaries, that would mean each team would have to spend $6 million more per year. Current average per team is around $11 million, spending 50% would bring it up to $17 million. That would put MLS in a whole new tax bracket.— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) January 16, 2019
YUP-- but unfortunately some owners are still living in the past and their Clubs will fall further and further behind as more ambitious owners ramp up their investment- Atlanta has set a new benchmark for owners and i would think that cincy, miami and nashville will try to emulate what arthur blank has done its MLS 3.0 and some owners are still in MLS 1.0
Here is the report he cites. Its actually pretty informative. The number for MLS is almost dead on if you simply take the salary figures released by the MLSPU most recently and divide by the total players ($376,258.39). Those number are gross and since the report's authors state that they are looking to compare like for like, I would assume that the rest are as well. https://www.globalsportssalaries.com/GSSS 2018.pdf
Nay, Sir! You underestimate the near infinitesimal cunning of some old school owners. Why, the Krafts are still working with MLS[.], where [.]= 10^--1,000,000.
