A league is following standards and filling out paperwork for sanctioning? Whaaaaaa? I thought all you had to do was yell real loud and sue USSF until they give in and grant you sanctioning
This is how I described the US Soccer Pyramid in it's relations to MLS on twitter. "It's like personally struggling to get a business off the ground once you finally start to figure it out and make money and grow the business everyone goes hey we want a cut we have a business too. Then they proceed to make 1mil excuses why they deserve a cut US Soccer Pyramid..."
Lalas is tweeting stuff about Miami name We could be looking at an @MLS with Loons, Pigeons, Eagles & Herons. Love it. We need more birds associated with teams. And yes, if it turns out to be true, I will take great joy in referring to the new Miami team as "the Herons."— Alexi Lalas (@AlexiLalas) August 15, 2018 Hold everything. I'm now hearing that the bird on this rumored logo for the new Miami @MLS expansion team is a crane. If true, I dig it even more. But can one of you bird-brains out there confirm what bird this actually is? pic.twitter.com/pDic3bLubx— Alexi Lalas (@AlexiLalas) August 15, 2018 I've now been told Heron, Flamingo, Stork, Crane and Egret. My kingdom for an ornithologist! pic.twitter.com/MB7Y2fPy3d— Alexi Lalas (@AlexiLalas) August 15, 2018 Twellman says it is an Egret Looks like a great egret to me. And just ask my wife, I’m a bird brain. https://t.co/sCfLjQRRXi— Ari Odzer (@ariodzernbc6) August 15, 2018
Article on Miami name. I have to say I dig pretty much everything about this. https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mls/article216723590.html
So between this and LAFC, retro-deco is apparently the new hipster flavor at MLS. It's stylish, I agree, but it mostly says we lack any original ideas. Which is at least truth in marketing.
So are they gonna sign Andy Heron? I know South Florida is full of old people, so he should fit right in...
Well the name is not original so why should the design? That said I like the name and badge. It is better than Atlanta United with a big A. For as much as Atlanta has hit out of the park...I still think they botched it massively with the name and logo (logo not as bad as name IMO, but the logo is still pretty lazy like the name). I am glad Minnesota, LAFC and hopefully Miami have put something identifiable in the logo for fans to attach to.
I agree, it's an attractive name and logo. I just find it hilarious that suddenly art deco has been re-discovered, by hipsters no less. Circa 2004-05, I was in a deposition in Minneapolis in a fancy high rise bank building. There was exhibit space in the spacious ground floor lobby. As the attorneys were departing out of the elevator and toward the lobby exit for lunch, I happened to notice that one of the display cases had an original poster promoting the 1920s Paris exposition on the decorative arts from which the "art deco" movement purportedly derives. I stopped and gawked in awe at this, to me, unimaginably significant piece of nearly century-old history, and when I explained my delay in catching up with my compatriots, they looked at me like I was crazy. They had never heard of art deco, let alone its derivation, and so could not understand my fascination with this piece of paper under glass. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Exhibition_of_Modern_Decorative_and_Industrial_Arts
Waiting for MLS to re-rediscover art nouveau. http://www.thearttribune.com/Art-Nouveau-Revival-1900-1933-1966.html
I think Miami has long been associated with the art deco look...right? http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/places-to-see/miami-beach/art-deco-historic-district It makes sense.
Apropos of nothing, does anybody else consider Radio Inside one of the best indies ever made? (It's got lots of Miami art deco in it).
Well, if you're talking glam, Buffalo has an art deco tradition, as well. http://www.decopix.com/art_deco_photo_galleries/art-deco-architecture-gallery/mg_1310-edit-60070/
