Outside of the fact that American football players are generally bigger and heavier than soccer players, why do you think that it is tearing the field up any more than another soccer game?
You've got 350 pound linemen digging into the field trying to get leverage against each other, which doesn't exist in soccer. The forces of them pushing against each other has to come from their cleats in the grass. That chews up ground pretty quickly.
Well … the video board has the correct aspect ratio … of course now it’s about the same size as the old one.
So, tonight is the preseason opener against the Seahawks. They're going to turn your place into a big divot by September.
We're secretly hoping that having the pitch look like a WWI battlefield will make the games more entertaining.
No, that's on Sunday, after our game. Dolts' schedule has been planned so that every football game comes after our games for that week.
The Gs can play 4 in the back and 6 forwards and just hoof the ball into the box and bypass the midfield altogether. Unfortunately, the Gs don't even have one serviceable forward. Romney is the biggest aerial threat for the Gs! Just think about that!
Grounds crew is gonna be pulling some serious overtime on Saturday night. http://www.latimes.com/sports/nfl/la-sp-chargers-stubhub-20170810-story.html
Per Kevin Baxter: "[Charger] attendance announced at 21,054...#LAGalaxy had 25,667 last night. Galaxy wins." In fairness, it was a Charger pre-season game while LA had David Villa and NYCFC as an attractive draw - lots of NYCFC shirts in crowd. But still, out-drawing the mighty NFL is at least interesting
What's crazy is that the exhibition games will run fans an average of $135 per seat! Who wants to pay that much to watch backups play? I payed less to watch our backups play this year in regular season games...
I always thought the 27k capacity included selling the grass berm. Since they went Chivas USA on the new grass seats it seems impossible to hit that number. Speaking of Chargers hacks, they did a whole piece on the "unique features" the Chargers installed including the Stadium Club and cabanas...
Yeah listening to the chargers/la times trying to spin the stub hub as this genius idea that the chargers have made happen has been pretty laughable. My favorite is the article that says that "the roof makes the 27,000 fans sound like 90,000 !!!" I get that it is their job to put the best spin on things but they are pushing the boundaries on the truth for sure. I love the stubhub but it is what it is. The fact that there were so many empty seats in their LA debut (preseason or no) is a little concerning if I was a Charger exec. Makes me think that a larger percentage then usual of their season ticket base might just be scalpers. That won't always lead to a packed crowd and in a tiny stadium like the Stub that will be very noticeable on TV.
As a native of San Diego, the comments here are priceless! I don't know any San Diegans who will follow the team. The Chargers now only exist to give Patriot, Steeler, Bengal, and other teams' fans who live in LA a chance to see their team.
Agree that the 27K number assumed grass berm seating, but I don't know how many they ever packed in there. Looked to me like people spread out on blankets for games like the 7/4 ones. And not sure how many bleacher seats they put in - it could actually be more than they ever sold for grass seating. I don't think we really know whether those seats decrease or increase the capacity. Additionally, the Dolts have those extra bleacher seats over by the Riot Squad corner. Don't know how many there, but clearly an addition to normal LAG seating. The long and short of it is that the 27K number is now more mythical than ever.
There have been times this season when I'd have welcomed the team being subjected to landmines, mustard gas and heavy machine gunfire.
There's a little part of me that wanted to adopt the Chargers since they'll be playing at SHC but then I felt like I'd be breaking an old, unwritten rule that my friends and I followed: Do not date your friend's ex. I don't hate San Diego or their teams. To any San Diegans here, I'm sorry that you had to lose your team. Hopefully the NASL will help fill the void and maybe commieball can be #1 there.
I promise not to get too political, but I'm done with the NFL. The way the ownership is kowtowing to the racist element of their fan base sickens me. They don't get a dime of my money.
I think I was done with the NFL years ago after Steve Young left the 49ers. It just became too boring for me. Besides the politics, the NFL withdrawing funding for research on head injuries really did it for me.
