Cue the "But Bradley runs alot!!1!!" crowd. I've seen good defensive games for Michael Bradley. They're just few and far between...
Gonzo is in for set pieces both offensively and defensively. And yes, expect yedlin to have to make at least 2 hyper speed runs to cover Omar getting caught out. Net though if we at piling up corners having Omar in is a positive in Bruce's mind.
Cameron, probably, not 100%. Panama kills everyone on set pieces, Omar is the only one on the team who is really good in the air. He must play. Really worried about Howard. Would, of course, play Benny instead of Nagbe, but Bob is there and he used to know how to use Benny.
Besler handles passing duties out of the back. Prepare for Mike "de-facto CB" Bradley picking up the ball at our own 18-yard box...
Which means we won't even be able to get the ball to our attackers if Panama comes with any sort of pressure.
FIRE ARENA! 1. Gonzo over Cameron & no Cameron at all. 2. 4-4-2 again. 3. Nagbe again. 4. Whether it is Nagbe wide & Pulisic central or vice-versa, I hate it. We'll lose the battle in midfield, even with Panama bunkering. They will surround Pulisic & dare Nagbe, Arriola, Jozy, or Wood to beat them. I smell a draw. If we don't win, hopefully Mexico helps us out. If so, we should fire Bruce & get someone else in there for T&T in preparation for the playoff.
Gonzo over Cam? MAYBE against a superior opponent that would be pouring in the crosses and corners. Against a weaker, counter attacking team?? Is Arena frigging senile??
I hated the lineup until I saw the formation, now I like it a bit more. Only things I don't like are Bradley being alone and Gonzo over Cameron
I dont see where the goals for us will come from. On the other end...Omar is always good for at least one goal against. I home Im wrong but I dont see this working. Did people really think Arena was going to play Benny Bahahahaha
We've also bled goals throughout qualifying. That's like saying because McDonald's has served the most burgers, they have the best burger. Smh.
1. No ream. good. 2. No dm. bad. 3. no 5 man midfield to cover, ball win, create for bradley. bad. 4. potential 4-3-1-2. Not bad, but only if CP plays in the hole. 5. No ream. good. The USMNT have sacrificed an entire cycle to one concept: MB as a Dmid. Kind of gut wrenching.
This lineup should be more than enough to beat a less-talented Panama team, regardless of formation, CB, or CM pairing. No excuses.
