Marcelo Bielsa hasn't signed a Chilean extension yet and they've been at it for a long time. Maybe he got enough of an impression from the 4-0 thumping in '09 Kirin Cup and world cup performance to consider japan. Fingers crossed, reportedly we're having a manager by mid-august.
Are we in a hurry? I don't think we should be. I just want the RIGHT GUY, even if we have to wait until Christmas.
Given that Asian Cup is around the corner we have to get *somebody* in the near future. And knowing how getting *somebody* *anybody* went last time, I'd prefer it to be the right person.
Maybe the good performance at the Wc made it harder. now whoever comes should know that in Japan as well RESULTS are expected... Anyway, I'd rather to get a good coach in October or even November than the first free guy around now... candidates seem limited, thou... Who is left?? I am a bit afraid that with time going, Troussier becomes a more and more likely option, and as much I think he did great in 2002, I don't believe he is the right man now. he should pick a J.league club, if he really wants to work here... His lurking around worries me...
How come you think he's likely to be considered? Junji Ogura has a rare opportunity here I think, because if this manager doesn't pay off, Ogura said he's only gonna be about for 2 years in JFA office. So whatever the hypothetical world cup result he isn't going to get blamed so much. He can be a little adventurous in picking the manager.
Because nobody else seems a serious candidate yet, while Troussier has been around doing a LOT of PR, showing "how much he loves Japanese soccer" and "how much he care." He could be considered a "safe"guy, and his top 16 in 2002 is still some capital... I mean, why was Okada picked...?
They didn't have much time and it was November 2007 so most national coaches were just starting to get into their team campaigns. The WCQ's were in a couple months starting and they didn't think it would be a good time to get a new system going. Okada I think was head of the technical committee or something like that so he was supposed to have a good knowledge of Osim's game (strengths, weaknesses etc) as its their job to critique the manager. He was hired partly to continue Osim's work as best as possible. Also probably as a scapegoat if South Africa didn't go too well. As it turned out he bailed completely on his interpretation of Osim-Japan after the loss to bahrain, and South Africa went well with his plan so it was win-win.
Hara has narrowed the choices down to three. One of which (probably Bielsa) being sought out by many nations. http://www.onenewspage.com/news/Sports/20100802/13635955/Soccer-Candidates-for-Japan-coach-narrowed-down-to.htm
There is one solution. Just give up foreign coaches. Domestic coaches are better for Japanese football at this time.
It is a waste of time and waste of money. Just give up 2014. I am sure it is not the year for Japan. Focus more on baseball! You people can't do anything in Brazil.
