The second leg against us was purely tactical though. We exposed the weakness in that style of play. Every team should have a long ball outlet that is a go to when needed. Imagine if they had a center back who was conformable with a quick and precise long ball. The space we left in our half with 3 defenders for Messi and Suarez means the game becomes a lottery and possibly a very different outcome on the night. I agree on the attitudes. Ronaldo's attitude is incredible in terms of focus on the game in the moment. Messi not so much as when things go wrong he gets very frustrated.
Messi failing to have any impact whatsoever in this WC, will definitly tranish his legacy as the best footballer ever.
Nigeria handed Argentina a lifeline yesterday. Now the countries will face each other in a game where Argentina has to win to advance. Messi masterclass incoming.
Id be starting Fazio in a back 3 and Higuain upfront. Fazio as a sweeper in a back 3 is as good as anyone, on his day he can be considered world class. He's the starting point to organise things but possibly even more important, you get to use his precise direct ball to fat chops upfront. Messi and someone else looking for 2nd balls. Bypassing the centre midfield altogether. Nigeria can hold them if they try to play football and can deservedly go through.
Agree 100%. You've read my mind I would start Fazio in a back 3 or 4 solely for his organization which they badly need. Don't care how they set up just do it with Fazio guiding the team from the back. Also, in my mind, Argentina are a better team with Tubby up top. I do believe Aguero is the better finisher but Piggy is much better at holding up play and linking up with his teammates. That would help Messi allot. Must win. I'd set up with Dybala and Messi orbiting Piggy. If it gets late and a goal is still needed then bring on Kun.
He had a good opening 15 or 20 minutes, and I had always been impressed by him when I tuned in for Lazio games. He disappeared with the rest of the Serbs by the 2nd half though.
This guy is the only fraud, lol. He has no idea what he's talking about. Michael Carrick (who was a good player) or not, put Messi on that Man U team and he'll probably make Ronaldo look like Vincenzo Iaquinta in comparison. On the international side, Ronaldo waltzes into the Golden Generation and continues to have great teammates today, who beat the only decent team they faced in the Euros without him. Meanwhile Messi leads a crappy squad (where the only other good players Di Maria and Aguero were injured) to the WC final, earns MVP, and this is somehow forgotten by every Christiano fanboy.
After a certain point in the 2nd half, Serbia were creating no threat while eating counter after counter. It was only a matter of time. They'll be kicking themselves for not settling for the draw if Costa Rica gets a result against the Swiss.
Reports in #Argentina that the squad has enacted a 'coup' against Coach Jorge Sampaoli, who plans massive changes for the #Nigeria game https://t.co/ShFKEzbe7P #ARG #WorldCup #Juventus #ASRoma pic.twitter.com/6LN5qOnUQm— Football Italia (@footballitalia) June 23, 2018
Might as well bring Maradona back. He's already in Russia. And if there's one guy whose ego is bigger than anyone in that lockerrrom it's his.
