After its convincing 2-1 victory over Colombia, Brazil returns to the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 2002 - and in the way stands an opponent from 12 years ago. Germany became the first team in the history of the tournament to reach 4 straight semifinals - in 2002, they defeated South Korea; in 2006, they fell to Italy; in 2010, the Spaniards took them out... and in 2014, they face the host country.

There is only one previous World Cup meeting between the two teams, and it was the final of the tournament in Korea/Japan, when Ronaldo's two second half goals brought Brazil its historic fifth World Cup title.

Thiago Silva, who had an excellent performance against Colombia, including a goal, will be out thanks to a second yellow card.

We can only hope Dante is up to the task and Neymar turns out alright or else Brasil is in for a struggle.

It would be disaster to lose when they are so close. GET THAT HEXA

I'm so pissed because of Thiago Silva's yellow card. So damn stupid.

Luis Gustavo ios back and that's some excellent news. Gustavo + Fernandinho for me , both as DMFs to offer extra coverage for Dante. Maicon should stay, absolutely. Oscar must participate more in the playmaking.

About Neymar, I'm not worried (much). He has lived through much worse, I'm confident he will play vs Germany.

Two VERY hard matches. This is the price for our dreamed HEXA!

I am shocked. How well can Bernard take over his role? Surely he can step up right?

Don't give up hope. A tragedy like this can move a nation as one and motivate to move on forward.

That's nice of you, but I can't blame you either if you also feel relieved and more confident...

Honestly. I don't know what to feel at this point. Relieved that Neymar's out? Or sad for the nation, not to mention Neymar himself, when this Cup was supposed to be his moment? Or furious that we aren't going to be able to face down the same Brazil everyone else has? I felt the same way when Reus got injured. Just awful. Wish injuries didn't happen in this sport.

What a huge loss. Team was gonna have to really dig deep anyway. No Neymer and no Silva? Now, they're gonna have to call on Cristo for a miracle.

Hey we're gonna play 7 games anyway....I would go further and play L. Gustavo, Paulinho, and Fernandinho in midfield!!

This is gonna be a cagey midfield battle and who ever controls it will win the game!!

As sad and f-cked up as this sounds, this might be a blessing in disguise!!

Now more than ever, I'd like to see a Brazilian 4-4-2.

So basically a super defensive 3-5-2.

Without Thiago Silva there is no way we will play 3 CBs. I'd go for something like this:

    -----------------------Julio Cesar
    --Maicon------Dante-------------DL--------Marcelo
    -------------Fernandinho-------Gustavo
    ----------Oscar---------------------Willian
    -------------------Fred--------Hulk

In dire situations, it's better to keep it simple. Good old 4-4-2, hope that Neymar's absence acts as the extra fuel for our players to overcome themselves and play out of their skins.

.... I really want to hate Zuniga, but I can't :(. This powerlessness is infuriating.

Are we comfortable with Dante back there? Felipao brought on Henrique. I think he might use him instead.

As for Neymer, Felipao will need to study the German team carefully to see which player would best exploit any weakness they have. The team will have to play as a TEAM now, no doubt. Pra frente Brasil!

I wonder what IVO is thinking? This guy always finds something positive even in the darkest situations. He should be the team personal pep talker. lol
