Why did he have his surgery in Italy? I initially read he wanted to go to a specialist in the states which made way more sense to me. As far as the highest level sports rehabilitation the US is way ahead of Europe. The fact that players like Strootman and Vlaar are putting in their recommendations for where he should rehab doesn't really bode well either considering Vlaar took almost 2 years to come back and Strootman has had endless setbacks.

I don’t want you guys get crazy yet but Zirkzee scored two goals in two games already for Bayern.

As someone who’s had an ACL injury, 5 months for Memphis to recover is unrealistic. Even more so if there was other damage? Do we know that yet? Any LCL/MCL/meniscus damage? If so that adds a solid month of two. There’s been tons of research on ACL tears... 6-9 months is the going rate for return to sport. Read: agility and jumping. Basic training. Returning at 6 months is dangerous because you’re not 100% healed and the risk of re-tear is still very high. Also, the risk of a contra lateral tear is very high at that point due to compensation.

IMO, Memphis should NOT rush this recovery for his own good. He MIGHT be back in training. But no where near match form. Use the extra 2 months of summer off to prepare for his league season to help his career

Koeman should try him out in our next 2 friendlies

  5. Why? Posters I trust tell me he only got into the first team by virtue of a wave of injuries. As such the coach had not other options. Time in the friendlies are best spent on players that do play regular first team minutes and also develop by playing EL Cup games. Not on players that havenot proven themselves (yet).
Van Hanegem too with this ridiculous text in his column:
    https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetbal/zirkzee-kan-vacature-memphis-invullen~a67e21a0/

"Do you think they at Bayern sub in a player not ready for it? "
Well, he obviously thinks they rather play with ten men than have a spot being occupied by a youth player not ready yet.
He's talking about if the guy can develop further he might be an option to fill in the vacancy of Depay at the Orange team.
I've been critical about WvH the last few years and think he's turned into a complete idiot. This quote is an example of it.
Zirkzee, according to the German posters tracking youth football in Germany, hasnot lived up to the expectations at his arrival and thus I cannot give support to this insanity. Hell, why not Hansen?
At least he did impress in the club and country youth team.

Why not if he can keep up his good performance? Without Depay I hope Steng can step up. There are still 3 months away so lots can happen (injury, performance). However I hope Koeman can bring some more young players up front. We have Babel and Luuk De Jong already. Friendly is perfect to try new players.
De Ligt's form is a concern as he keeps sitting on the bench.
Van Dijk's and Wijnaldum's fitness will be a concern due to Liverpool's heavy schedule.
I'd love to wish for Euro 2020 title as my Christmas wish.

Is it enough time to convince Robben to come back so he has about 4-5 months to train to be fit? ;) I'm afraid he enjoys retirement too much so it'll be very difficult to come back.....

On my quick math... it took Boadu 4+ months, 14 goals and 4 assists in all competitive matches this season before he was given a chance to debut by Koeman. So yeah, looks like Zirkzee got a lot of minutes in front of him to prove himself (as talented as he is) ;)

  9. https://fcbayern.com/de/news/2019/12/interview-jochen-sauer?shortURL=InterviewSauer2019

FC Bayern's youth department has had an enormously intensive but very successful year. In addition to the long-awaited promotion of the record champions' amateurs to the 3rd division, the strong debuts of Sarpreet Singh, Leon Dajaku and especially Joshua Zirkzee caused a sensation. fcbayern.com spoke to young manager Jochen Sauer about the past months.

    The interview with Jochen Sauer

fcbayern.com: Mr. Sauer, how great was your joy at Joshua Zirkzee's extremely successful Bundesliga debut?
Sauer:“I think it was great for everyone on campus who accompanied Joshua's journey with us so far. Joshua is a great striker, which is why we brought him from Feyenoord Rotterdam to Munich two and a half years ago. He is a striker type that is no longer so common today: tall, athletic, but still technically strong. In order to promote him better, we raised him to amateurs at the beginning of the year. I am pleased that he helped the team win in Freiburg and against Wolfsburg, but it must be clear to him that this was only the first small step on the way to becoming a professional. He has to keep working hard on himself. If he does that, then I trust him to do a lot - also at Bayern. ”

Sarpreet Singh and Leon Dajaku also made their Bundesliga debuts. What do these assignments mean for working on the FC Bayern Campus?
“On the one hand, they are an award for the work of all trainers, physios, supervisors and those responsible on campus, but also a great motivation for all of our talents to imitate these guys. The way to our professionals is a big challenge and difficult, but it is doable. In the end it is always up to the player himself if he is ready to give everything for this big goal. In any case, talent alone is not enough - generally in football and especially at Bayern. ”

Zirkzee, Singh and Dajaku have been training with the professionals for a few weeks now, just like Oliver Batista-Meier.Lukas Mai, Christian Früchtl and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann are already part of the extended squad. Do you hope that soon nobody will talk more about David Alaba than the last home-grown plant that has made the leap to the professionals?
“The FC Bayern Campus was built and opened with this clear objective. The club had this new youth performance center cost a lot to bring its own talents to the Allianz Arena on a regular basis. And I think we've done a lot for that in the past 2.5 years that I've been here. ”

Let us look back at the past months with the campus teams. The amateurs go into the winter break with 23 points after promotion to the 3rd division. Can you be satisfied with it?
“We started the season better than expected with our young team and played very good games offensively. At the end of the first half of the season we made too many minor mistakes on the defensive and gave away a few safe points. If it were four points more, it would have been a perfect first round. With 23 points, we still have to get everything out of every game. Then I am very confident that we will achieve our season goal of staying in the league. ”

Under the new coaching duo Martín Demichelis and Danny Schwarz, the U19 were particularly convincing in the Youth League - in the Bundesliga they are close to the top of the table.
“The experience of international competition is very important for all players in the U19, where it is increasingly a question of becoming a professional. At the national level, our boys have almost always played against the same teams and the same players in their Bundesliga relay for years. Internationally, we sometimes meet teams where no player is known. You don't know what to expect. This challenge enables players to take the next step. That is why we are very happy and happy to have entered the Youth League knockout round in a very convincing way. The team still has every opportunity in the Bundesliga. Danny and Micho really did a great job with their team. ”

Our U17 made an exclamation mark in the last game before the winter break by beating the top team from Hoffenheim. Do you see Miro Klose and his team on track?
"With the win against Hoffenheim, we had the chance to defend the title as South German champion again. With the very strong teams from Mainz and Hoffenheim, we go into a three-way battle for the top in the second half of the season. Overall, we can be happy with how it went. What I would like to emphasize again explicitly: It is nice when a team wins games, but for FC Bayern it is primarily about developing our players and preparing them for the next level. And I think we have made another big step forward this year, because we have already raised four U17 players to the U19, which, like in the previous season, is regularly backed up by some younger U16 vintages U17.

Placing players in an older team - is that a way to better promote top talents?
"Yes, we are convinced of this on campus and we are practicing that with the performance teams from the U16 up to the U23, where there are sometimes three or four A-juniors in the starting XI. The boys are exposed to completely different stimuli and face greater challenges. You always have to give everything to keep up athletically and football-wise, you cannot lean back. This means that you can get used to the requirements of men's football earlier. And that's where we want to get them. "

The other U teams can also look back on a successful first half of the season. Who surprised you the most anyway?
“You can't really highlight a team or individual players here. But it's nice to see that, without exception, all the players we pushed up a year have mastered this challenge excellently. Almost all of the players have gained a regular place in their teams in the first weeks of the season. "

Hermann Gerland has been working as an assistant to the professionals since autumn. Do you miss the “tiger” in your daily work?
"Hermann is not really away from campus. We talk on the phone every day and every day off with the professionals, he looks here for the teams and presses ahead with his topics. In addition, he can now better maintain contact with Sebastian Hoeneß and our amateurs on Säbener Straße. In addition, I am sure that he has a special focus on our talents in professional training and will always have a supportive and regulating effect. "

Holger Seitz has been strengthening sports management since summer. What were the issues that he was driving?
“The collaboration with Holger is going very well. We have known each other since I came here. Holger knows the coaching life in a young talent center, for example he takes care of the coordination in the daily cooperation of our coaches, he is heavily involved in the individualization of the training work and is also particularly involved in the team planning of all teams. He is a great support for Hermann and me. ”

In the end, of course, the question: What does the FC Bayern youth boss want for 2020?
“The big goal remains to train players for our professional team. Therefore, we would of course be very happy about more working times for our boys. The development of the past few weeks also shows that our young talents recognize that it is definitely possible to become a professional at FC Bayern. We want to push this further. It is also extremely important for us that the U23 stay in the 3rd league and the U19 internationally progress one round or another in the Youth League. "

Donyell Malen had a successful knee surgery in the U.S., and will miss the rest of the season as well as the Euro '20. Such an unfortunate event in an otherwise strong breakout season for him. Best wishes for his recovery, and hope he will come back even stronger!!

Meanwhile, Bergwijn was left out from PSV squad traveling to Doha for mid-season practice. He is nursing slight injuries. Really need to him to get back to 100% soon for the sake of Oranje!!

El Ghazi with a great cross as Villa take the halftime lead against Leicester in the Cup match. with all the injuries to attackers he should be considered for a call up.

I have been tracking him since the season started. 5 goals and 6 assists in all competition now and you have players like berghuis in NT who flopped in epl. he is a player who can make a difference especially on the left where he excels being dual footed. his only drawback is his consistency as when villa is continuously defending he can fade out but then I think that aspect of the game is pretty well covered in NT with Van dijk and de ligt and plus this is where subs can called upon. also he could be useful with strikers weghorst or luuk where his crosses could prove decisive aerially for the strikers.

in between tete continues to shine for lyon and had another assist for Houssam Aouar in the coupe de france.

Hell no. I would rather start Boadu with all the flaws and the fact that he is quite young. I would see the development of Lammers but I would never start Luuk upfront. The guy is just basically trash. If you wanna play with a target man then bring Weghorst who is miles better than Luuk IMO

Both Depay and Malen are refusing to give up hope for Euro 2020. Good for them.

I am still not counting on either player, but the recent update from both camps have been quite encouraging. I read that Malen is targeting a April/May timeframe return. He didn't damage his ACL, and apparently only repair was needed.

Bergwijn has been shifted to a central forward role for PSV in the first game after the winter break... if he can adapt and thrive in this position, this could be good news for Oranje. Promes has returned. Will need Stengs and/or Boadu to continue to improve and step up their game in next 5+ months.

  24. I'm not keen on forcing to be ready (whatever that means) for the EC2020, while there's a WC coming up too in two tears time. For the sake of one tournement taking risks for the rest of their careers is too high a price for me.
