Hi all, I haven't had a chance to follow Wanchope in the J-League and already he's gone, and apparently emerging in the MLS. Clearly it didn't work out for him there...anybody watch his decline & fall and have an opinion about it? Yoroshiku, Lolonearbyyolo
Wanchope was badly out of form in Japan, and he tends to split if things aren't going his way, just look at the number of clubs he's been to: http://www.wldcup.com/Asia/jleague/tokyo/wanchope.html
Was it fitness? -chemistry? -style difference? -did he get playing time or was he so poor a fit with the team he never got out there? It is amazing how unlikely he is to finish a contract...It looks terribly unprofessional. I wonder what his take on it is? Maybe something like "I suck and I know it, but as long as people keep paying me, I will pretend I don't until they figure it out?" At any rate he is very inconsistent seemingly, a flash of brilliance then mundane quietude.
You obviously never saw Saul "Speedy" Martinez play Wanchope never seemed to fit in Hara's ever evolving "vision" of what he wanted to accomplish. Wanchope made a mistake in coming but Hara is an abysmal coach.....I'm surprised you don't remember that he was the one that led the Reds down to J2
I don't think his appearances totalled 90 minutes combined but yeah he barely did Enilton was far worse that Wanchope this year.....given a different situation, he might have done alot better. But yeah, he blew it.
Just to follow up on Wanchope's progress in MLS, he was on the pitch at Giants Stadium for the full 90 minutes on Saturday, but had no effect on the game whatsoever. Apart from the times when he kicked Red Bulls players, I had to check to make sure he was still out there.
He did fairly well two weeks ago, but I suspect it helps him a lot that Cuahtemoc Blanco plays next to him. So far the stats show that in 5 games, he has 3 starts, and he has 11 shots, 4 shots on goal, 1 goal. Jury is still out on him in the MLS.
Wanchope announces retirement http://www.mlsnet.com//news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20071116&content_id=129600&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp
If only he had put some effort into playing, he might not be retiring. He was shocking bad in the three games I watched him play for Chicago.
well, at least he realized he didn't have it any more and retired. I think Chicago should have realized he didn't have it anymore after his stint with FC Tokyo though.
