I didn't think we could do it after losing to Iceland but we're there, 8 englishmen in the semi-final of a major tournament. Let's see how far the alliance with Wales will take us.

I'm joking though, credit to Wales shows what a team can do compared to a group of individuals who play for 'big' clubs.

I said before the tournament that Belgium would not make the QF, while I was wrong (just), the team reminds me so much of Portugal's golden generation including over confidence, wrong manager and a lack of grit.

I think Belgium will be fine. Leadership is developed through experience. This is two tournaments in a row now where they've gained experience in the knockout rounds. This group will be together for at least one more cycle. In fact the likes of Courtois, De Bruyne, Hazard, Carrasco and Lukaku will be around for at least 3 more tournament cycles.

Where they lack a little bit is depth in defense. Missing Kompany, Vermaelen and Vertonghen was too much. The young guys they were forced to bring in did not look ready for this level.

I'm not sure why people consider this result to be an upset.

Wales beat Belgium 1-0 on aggregate over the two legs of their Euro 2016 qualifiers...

    I have a few comments:

The better fanbase won this game. Having watched the cocky, arrogant Belgian fans fill Lyon full of bravado, right up until kickoff - they sat on their hands the minute the Italians started bossing them around the field. Never heard another word. They have a losers mentality and it was on display again tonight.

Secondly, I am a Chelsea fan so I have an affinity for Lukaku, Hazard and Courtois - hope to get Nainggolan. Courtois leaves a lot to be desired. Had a terrible year and spent a great deal of time picking balls out of the net. Don't see that he can do much with the first two but is his positioning right for the Vokes goal? He was not much better than Joe Hart this year so instead of throwing Wilmots under the bus perhaps he should take a look in the mirror.

Despite my lack of regards for Courtois's attitude - Wilmots has to go...This team has too much talent to keep doing this. Maybe they are just a group of losers and wouldn't win with Sir Alex but they won't win with Wilmots so let the coaching search begin.

    Go Wales...Love it.

    Michel Preud'homme?

How about that manager from KAA Gent (I can't spell his long name) ... That club did nothing for 100+ years and this guy came around and wins the Belgian league title. The next year they advance from their difficult Champions League group that had Zenit, Lyon and Valencia ... He must be doing something right.

Vanhaezebrouck - could get a look but not a big name. Michel carries more weight as a former big time keeper. How has he been doing?

No matter what Wales do now, they have to be team of the tournement. I posted in this thread earlier in the week wishing Belgium to wipe that smug look from Gareth Bale's face, but after watching that display last night, I have to say Bale has the right to be smug, and every Wales player can smile all they want. That performance was a lesson in football. This is a team. It doesn't even pain me to say it. I'm an England fan, and now I believe in Wales. I wasn't convinced at all until last night. I think they have a good chance of beating Portugal in the semis. You're going to hear alot of Bale vs Ronaldo talk in the build up, but I assure you it's not the case. It's Wales vs Ronaldo.

Congratulations Wales. I'm jealous of your success, and I hope you win it. Might kick our England squad up the backside.

especially seeing as most of their team was english born it kinda of kills certain peoples arguments that england dont have the talent to go far, its all about having a good plan that everyone believes in and work as a team, something england have not had in decades, you watch the overpaid numptys will be back throwing sickies for our malta home game.

He seemed to miss at least 3 reasonable chances. Not anything to aspire to

Wilmots should of been been using Batshuayi instead of Lukaku as a starter for the tournament.

The bookies set odds to attract an equal amount of money to both side of a bet....odds are not an actual reflection of who bookies think it the better team or should win a match.

I made a lot of money this week putting relatively small bets ($20 US each) on Iceland and Wales to win at very high odds...and I'm putting another $20 on Iceland to beat France at 8 to 1.....that says the odds of Iceland beating France are about 12.5%, when in reality I think the true odds are about 25-30%.

People simply don't realize how much the gap between top teams and mid-tier teams has closed...

look pal I have done the gambling thing too down the years (we have more freedom to bet on stuff then you americans LOL) but its still a shock result and it makes that trolling **** you posted about england pointless because most of the welsh team are english and have come through the english youth system.

Of the first 11, three were born in England: A.Williams, Chester, Vokes/HRK.

They all qualify through their grandparent.

Jonathan Williams qualifies through his Anglesey born father so a closer relationship.

Realistically though, none of them apart from possibly A.Williams would have played for England but when he first started, he would have had to have dislodged Terry/Ferdinand etc.
