Omani Football Saham Club claim their first ever piece of silverware winning the 2009 Sultan Qaboos Cup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009–10_Sultan_Qaboos_Cup
Omani League Update MUSCAT: Omani representatives in the 2010 AFC Cup had a rather disappointing Thursday in the Oman League when Saham lost to leaders Al Suwaiq 1-0 while defending champions Al Nahda were held 2-2 by Al Khaboora. Ibrahim Al Ghilani scored the match-winner for Al Suwaiq seven minutes into the restart. The victory helped them reach 22 points after eight rounds, six more than Al Nahda. Saham are eighth in the 12-team standings with nine points. Sulim Al Farsi and Mohammed Al Mashaikhi gave Al Nahda a 2-0 lead but a goal each from Mwlala and Mahmud Al Qatiti in the last seven minutes denied victory to Al Nahda. In other matches, Oman lost to Al Shabab 3-1, Al Nasr downed Al Seeb 3-0, Muscat were held 2-2 by Dhofar and Al Taeea played a goalless draw with Al Oruba. STANDINGS: 1. Al Suwaiq 22, 2. Al Nahda 16, 3. Al Khaboora 12, 4. Al Taleea 12, 5. Al Nasr 11.
WAFF CONGRESS IN AMMAN 25th WAFF Congress due to be held in Amman, Jordan on 25th January WAFF website states that all 13 members will be present. This contradicts that they only have nine members anyway. The other four i assume are associate members?
Yeah i think so, pity they haven't updated that part of the website!! Looking closer at the site aswell, it states they meet up every four years. Why such a long wait for a meeting? Surely they have important things to discuss during this time that they need to put on official records?
Qatari Stars Cup Al Gharrafa secured their 16th ever trophy and the inaugural Qatari Stars Cup defeating Al Ahli 5 - 0 in the final. The two sides previously met on the last matchday of the Group Stage. Al Ahli winning 3-0 to secure their passage through to the semis. The competition has been set up to fill the void of the shortened regular league season. And with the top clubs looking to concentrate on the league and continental competition, it wasn't a surprise that Al Ahli made it to the final and the tournament has brought some cheer to the lesser lights of the Qatari football system.
Very unlikely, even though no Central Asian country has applied for membership so far. Only as invited teams.
This link http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100106/SPORT/701059874/1063 states that the next Gulf Cup will be played in November 2010
WAFF Congress starts tomorrow. Will anyone be able to bring any news hot off the press as to what is discussed?
Actually, the congress was moved to another date (yet to be decided) http://www.alghad.com/index.php?news=477978

WAFF Congress on April 19 in Amman. Main issue will be the 2010 WAFF Championship, the tournament is likely to get moved from Lebanon since their federation cannot guarantee people's entry into the matches. Iraqi city of Arbil is the most likely replacement. Also, Yemen and the UAE will be admitted as full members. <-- thought that they already were. Source | translation
The WAFF website states there are 13 member's and Yemen and UAE were affiliated in 2009. So, i guess they were kind of like half members and got no voting rights? Does WAFF have a hnad in organising club tournaments?
Indeed. Arbil already hosted a successfull Asian Youth Qualifiers group, I hope it'll get the chance to host this championship as well.
Thats what i thought, so i don't really see the need for these nations to be members of WAFF when the UAFA did/or have orgnaised any tournament that really has been of any use before, such as GCC and Arab Champs League
Jordan League Al Faisaly claim their 31st league crown, winning on the final day of the season to win the 2009-10 championship by one point from Al Wihdat. There first championship since 2004!
UAE Presidents Cup Emirates Club 3:1 Al Shabab Emirates win there first ever piece of silverware!!!! Al Shabab runners up two years running
Unfortunately WAFF didn't choose Arbil as venue for this years WAFF edition. The tournament will be played in Amman, Jordan.
That sucks. In other WAFF news I heard the tourney this year will be held in Jordan in late September/Early October.
