Can we not do stuff like this, pretty please. I'm sure you can come up with other witty descriptors for the panhandle...
Wait, we can't call the Florida panhandle coast the Redneck Riviera anymore? Sweet merciful crap. This is why we moderators get called stupidfaces.
I guess all the lobbying work that needs to be done, ever, to help provide access everywhere in America for the visually impaired has been done, huh? This is all he's got left...
I know you're Canadian, so I'll say this just as an FYI. That term was never intended to include the entirety of White people, or, even of White Southerners. It describes the skin of a low-caste (but still better than any Black man) White laborer, and has been expanded to include White folks whose thinking never got beyond that of the average White HS graduate, even if they ended up making some money. It's a term that any White person can shed anytime they wish by simply evolving between their own ears, Pete. The ones who've earned it embrace it. Don't be a conservative. Don't be a conservative-enabling centrist. That keeps you from being one, full stop. I won't use it here anymore, but I really think you need to read this before you treat the word like it's a slur or something.
This is not a game, Pete. POCs and women and immigrants and the poor and gays and the sick and the elderly are not striking out at trumpers. They are in a mode of desperate self-defense. None of those groups asked to be put in a boxing ring with some conservative wearing brass knuckles while the libertarian ref looks the other way. None of them asked to be put in a ring at all. They just want to be allowed to live and go to work and maybe enjoy a day or so off every once in a while without the spectre of conservatism hanging over their heads waiting to call the cops, block their driveways, shout at them in service lines, invade their space, kill them in church, kill them in police custody, kill them for being lost in the wrong neighborhood, kill them with cars, kill them with tasers, follow them around town shouting actual slurs at them (there are no slurs for the ruling race in this or any other country, not really), yada, yada... It's a war, and BigSoccer P&CE may have its own agenda to make money and not offend anyone who might contribute to their coffers. But I wanted you to know that removing one properly-fitting term term from whatever arsenal the rest of us have left isn't "making things fair".
In most cases, I could definitely see your point. We do allow things to be said about the majority/powerful on these boards that we would ban if it was the inverse. But in the specific case of "Redneck Riviera," you should allow it. Take it from someone fluent in American.
Plus, the price for the average rental throughout most of that 30A corridor now.....wheeew! Not cheap.
Let me assure that those of us who are mods here are making these decisions at the ground level. We don't make any money, and we under no pressure from anybody who does make money from this, in order to make any of our decisions. We took on the time and responsibility to moderate because we enjoy the discussions in BigSoccer and we want to contribute to keep them going. I, personally, was very reluctant to take on this responsibility, and I didn't step into it lightly. But I saw the need, I chose to fill it knowing what it entailed, so I am not going to complain. It's a fact that different posters think the boards are unfair in very different ways and for very different reasons. We try to listen to complains, but if we were to act every time a poster thinks something is unfair, then you'd see a lot less discussion than you see now, and I think this board would end up being much worse than it is - as bad as some of you may seem to think it is now. It's also an obvious fact that the boards lean a certain way, in terms of politics and ideology, and some posters feel slighted over their opinions, and we lost many posters over that. I get that you believe there is a war, and you take it very seriously, and given where the country is now it is understandable. But even if it is so, the moderator in his capacity as moderator cannot possibly act as a warrior in this war. At best we can contribute to create the environment in which the ideas get discussed and exposed. We are not here to moderate politics or ideology, we are here to moderate offensive posts and trolling. The challenge is that different posters have different views on what constitutes offensive material and what constitutes trolling. We try to listen to complaints, we discuss them with other mods, and believe me, our intent is to be fair and also to give the appearance of fairness to all who participate, while giving posters the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. Obviously, it's not possible to operate as a moderator in a way that will not make some people perceive it as unfair, but I can tell you that we do try. It may be obviously an impossible task, but we still try. And it seems, ironically, that the posters to whom we give the benefit of the doubt the most usually end up being the ones who complain the most about others.
Wrong! They're more like Angelo Dundees. First they give them a blast from the water bottle, rub down their shoulders and then when the cheap shot comes, sheepishly slink out the side door.
I hope you don't expect BigSoccer to follow the lead of MSNBC or any of those other so-called News Networks.
