He will play a match where you think "he has finally sorted his shit out, he is going to be #1 in 2 years" and follows it with such a petulant, garbage month, that it makes you angry that someone can be given so much talent yet such little willpower.

It must be really frustrating to be so talented at something you don't really like to do

Let everyone dope. It’s entertainment ffs. Best time in baseball was when we had the monsters hitting baseballs 500 feet. People are excited again for baseball for the same reason this season.

This is only entertainment. If brehs and brehettes need that extra boost, let them. I don’t care.

Justin Hoyte (FC Cincinnati) and Wayne Rooney (DC United) tonight. Old man Rooney got away from Hoyte and another defender to score midway through the 2nd half. Goalie had an Almunia haircut. SMH

And he’s still one of the best players in mls right? I remember people saying how much the league would improve 10 years ago

With each team being allotted one high dollar player and the global player market doing what it has done in the past 10 years (crazy high prices for potential, China laying out huge cash for old stars), it was never going to be on par with the big European leagues. I don’t think anyone was saying that. I don’t watch enough MLS to say if the quality of play has substantially improved over that time, though.

Crikey. In order to compete (or 'entertain'), one must be willing to take the health risks that accompany PEDs? That's madness.

Wasn't F1 better - I mean ... y'know, more entertaining - when you were more likely to retire due to death than to decision? Hey, the ones who want it enough will take the risks, eh? And can you believe the way folks are bitching about the neurological effects of contact in the NFL? Why water down the game for these fairies? Players know the risks. Bring back the flying wedge, I say.

This board will bang on for weeks about footy's concussion protocol and scoff at the premise that a player, himself, could determine himself able to continue … but hey … let everyone dope. It's entertainment, ffs.

    ffs.

I'm guessing the bookies stopped taking bets on Newcastle once Steve Bruce was announced as their HC.

Julian Alaphillippe just had a shockingly good time trial performance in the Tour today. And so he surprisingly retains the yellow jersey because of it. He's an excellent cylclist who appeared to earn the yellow days ago on merit.

But AFAIK he's never done anything like win a major TT before. Plus he seemed much less zonked after his race than most of his competitors.

So, I'd be lying if I said I didn't raise my eyebrow and wonder about clever PED usage, or blood doping. I'm sure he got immediately drug-tested afterwards but who really believes that those tests are anywhere near fool-proof?

We know he must be doping because he is beating Team Sky (whatever they are called now) and Team Sky were caught doping

It's become pretty obvious via cycling that the whole point of WADA and co is simply to provide a blanket of credibility. Even when Team Sky were caught red handed nothing happened.

And once more we saw how when a big rider fails a test, it is kept secret.

We only know Froome failed his test because someone leaked it.

What's your response to my Rod Laver example. He won 200 singles titles, 11 slams even though about a third of his career predated the open era, and had two Grand Slam years. He was the dominate player in the 60s, before the use of PEDs became common.

Rod Laver may just have been that good. Doesn’t have any bearing on the argument that doping leads to outliers.

(Leaving aside the fact that much of his career happening in the pre-open era actually makes his accomplishments more explainable, not less.)

It’s improved as far as players’ technical ability. I don’t think the speed of play has improved much.

This is why the Rooney’s and Zlatans can do well. They are still technically superior and now at a speed that they can handle.

The American system is brilliant for basketball and football etc but not soccer

I think the only way they could have done a traditional league is have a super long season with a ton of breaks.

The travel is just too hard to have it be a actual random + super Sunday style calendar. Toronto to Montreal is a "local derby" at it's still an hour flight time.
