Welp, looks like I'm losing my local MLS club after next season. Announcement has been made a day after season ticket purchase deadline. Shady as f*ck.
WHOA!! Yes I'd been noticing the many empty seats in any clips I've seen of your stadium in the last year or two. Frankly it made me feel a smidgen better about my own NYRB's inability to fill their fantastic stadium by much more than 50%. BUT. To move one of the founding clubs?? Abandoning the first SSS, as funky as it might be?? I know it's an American tradition this, but having spent so much of my time embedded in the English way of doing things, I just don't think it's right to move a team to another city, at least one that's more than 45 mins away by car. You and your brethren have my heartfelt condolences. p.s. If they announced this the day after season ticket deadline, that's not shady, it's damn near evil greed.
I've been on a 2 match a year kick for the last decade, so I don't have the right to be as angry/heartbroken as some, but this still hurts. I was at their second match where Brian McBride scored the winner (or at least that's what my memory tells me). Been a Crew lifer and this realllly sucks.
The only thing that annoys me about the toon was when I was in Newcastle with my brother we did their stadium tour as he is a supporter of Newcastle, and during the tour they claim that it was them who got us into the red with white sleeves.
They play in Bridgeview? That’s a hike. Prolly 45 minutes minimum from the North burbs and even more from the city.
From my less than perfect memory... We owe red shirts to Forest who lent us their kits when we were poor 100 years ago We owe the white sleeves (and many other things) to Herb Chapman Please correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't bother to look any of this up.
Duh. But was nice to see him score a nice goal last night in their absolute romp in UCL. And be honest, wouldn't it be nice for us to able to beat a team by 7-0 sometime? When was the last time?? I mean we just barely beat Doncaster Rovers a month ago!!
October 23, 2007: 7-0 home win against Slavia Prague. 2 goals each from Cesc and Theo, Hleb and Bendtner each had one, and their LB scored an own goal. Followed that one up with a 0-0 draw in Prague two weeks later.
I can see it taking that - if you're in, for example, Wrigleyville, it can 45 minutes just to get to the Kennedy or Congress Pkwy, and then it's at least another hour to Bridgeview. The fastest way might be to get on the Orange line and then uber it from Midway (at least from looking at Google maps).
Just watching UCL highlight show. Wow what a match at the Bridge! Would've driven the coaches crazy but great entertainment.
