"American Exports: Necaxa's Ventura Alvarado, Sonny Guadarrama hunting promotion to Liga MX

Necaxa’s American duo of Ventura Alvarado and Sonny Guadarrama ... kept their hopes of reaching Liga MX alive with a 0-0 tie at home to Estudiantes Tecos on Wednesday in the first leg of the Ascenso MX’s Clausura semifinals.
Phoenix native Alvarado and Guadarrama, a Texan, both played the full 90 minutes in a game the home side dominated.... Three-time Mexican first-division champions Necaxa will head to Guadalajara on Saturday for the return leg hoping for an away goal, with Alvarado and Guadarrama set to feature."

Bummer. Leg two was also 0-0 and Tecos advanced on tie breakers.

Both Yanks started, Guadarrama hit a post.

Fortunately there's a Yank on Tecos, too. Hedging.

Alvarado's loan to Necaxa is up, so he's back with America for now.

Seems like he might be good enough to stay playing in the 1st division.

They're looking to improve in the CB area for next season. .. Some reports have them targeting Omar Gonzalez. Will be interesting to see if Ventura can impress

He may be less experienced but I think developing Alvarado would be a better option.

If he can find a way to be a consistent starter there then I would agree.

2 or 3 times. He did pretty well every time I got to see him play. I don't see how Omar Gonzalez, who is 4 years older, is that much of a better option.

This guy seems to score pretty often, are we sure he isn't a striker? :D

Hmmm.. was just wondering about how this guy was doing the other day to. Very interesting that article says he's been playing Left back and been doing good there. Mohamed has been pleased with his work in preseason. If Layun goes to Europe I can see him getting a lot of playing time.

Highlights from yesterday, though Alvarado does not appear.

He has made 2 starts with the U-20s during the 2014 Apertura and picked up a yellow card.

Club América have a spot in the 2014/2015 CONCACAF Champions League.

During the 2014 Clausura he made 16 starts on loan to Necaxa in the Ascenso MX. He scored a goal and picked up 3 yellow cards.

Finally, in the Champions League, Phoenix, Arizona, native Ventura Alvarado headed in Club América’s third goal in a 6-1 victory over Puerto Rico’s Bayamón in Estadio Azteca. Alvarado steered the ball in at the near post from a corner in the 14th minute and played the full game at left back for Las Aguilas in an easy win to move the Liga MX team above Guatemala’s Comunicaciones on goals scored at the top of Group 8.

Played the full 90 for Club America in the CCL. I think he mostly played at CB.
