Two assists (plus a secondary assist?) is a good first start for Gedion. The level of opposition was weak, but he can only play against the team on the field and he's had hardly any time at all with his new teammates. It's a confidence builder. Regular tests against slightly stronger clubs in the Championship will ensue. Hopefully Rangers get a few SPL draws in the League Cup and Scottish Cup. Will he stay at Rangers past January? Too soon to say what makes sense. Next up is a trip to Queen of the South on Sunday.
As usual, you're the one with the problem. I never suggested play for Arsenal's youth team. I suggested he go out on loan to another senior team where they'd play physical enough while pressuring him technically much more than he'd get in the Scottish Championship.
It's not that easy, though. What team, who could give him minutes, would bring him on mid-season? Teams that would bring him on would be bad teams who are under pressure to not go down where there's a big chance he wouldn't be able to play. Just seems sorta counterproductive. Playing for Rangers in front of a rabid fan base for a season at 18 years of age isn't the worst way to start your pro career...at all.
Thats what I like personally, if he phones in a performance or doesn't meet expectations he is going to hear about it at Rangers. From the times I've been able to watch him play, he needs a little kick in the ass occasionally to get more involved, and he will get that. As far as today's performance, it couldn't come at a better time for him as far as it being a cup game against a weaker team on his debut. Now he goes into his first league game with some confidence, and an idea of how the team wants to play.
i'm hoping this is a case of a us youth and his club making the right decisions and he fully pans out. I.e hyndman if he doesnt get sold, then it might be a wasted year.
Well he also couldn't go on a different loan FIFA rules prevent a player from moving three times in one year. Youth games count. I'm almost certain at least.
Funny. But I hope karma didn't hear you. 20 games with no trouble and one with a broken leg is still one with a broken leg.
Rangers, a club in the second division, is being followed and featured on Sports Illustrated. If they win anything this season, it will be huge for that football club. You cannot put a price on this if you're Rangers and you're rebuilding your brand. http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2015/08/26/gedion-zelalem-rangers-debut-scotland?
Yup, now everyone is planning the next 18 - 24 months of his career based on one game. In a Scottish League Cup game. Against a 3rd division team.
Better than sitting on the bench all year, and if he can play a full season healthy thats fine, but not going to get too high or too low based on this season. If he gets really big it might be one of those deals where we look back and say 'Cant believe he played in the Scottish 2nd division as an 18 year old'
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see any future superstar playing at any certain level at 18.... 18 is pretty dang young... almost the minimum for professionals really.
It was a bloody hypothetical that could well become a reality (time will tell). This is a discussion forum. It's here for.....discussions. Lighten up, Francis.
He was never going to sit on the bench all year. Had this loan deal not happened then he would have been starting for Arsenal's U-21 team every week.
