The nomination races have been won. It's Donald versus Hillary. With that nonsense out of the way, now we're onto the part of this election season that really matters ... or doesn't matter a bit. I forget which. THE VEEPSTAKES! Who wants to have the honor of running for an office that's worth less than "a bucket of warm piss"? Who would even accept the offer if asked? The Wall Street Journal leaked Clinton's short list. Or at least the Wall Street Journal leaked a list that somebody in the Clinton campaign wanted the Wall Street Journal to report as Clinton's shortlist. These were the names on it. Labor Secretary Tom Perez HUD Secretary Julián Castro Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) Senator Tim Kaine (VA) Senator Sherrod Brown (OH) Senator Cory Booker (NJ) Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti Representative Xavier Becerra (CA) Representative Tim Ryan (OH) Vox has a great primer. If she doesn't pick Warren, I fully expect Clinton to do something dumb and pick Kaine. The fact that Tim Ryan is on this list only reinforces my sense that people around Clinton are trying to convince her to be stupid and tack to the center by picking a pro-life (or formerly pro-life) Democrat. Of all the moronic things she could do to boost Jill Stein's share of the vote. As for Trump, I honestly wonder who would even agree to be on his ticket. The basic role of the VP during an election is to defend the top of the ticket. Who would be willing to do that for Trump? I don't think Christie would be willing to do that. I can only think of two politicians who might accept the gig: Senator Jeff Sessions and Newt Gingrich, and I've gotta think it's going to be one of them. Who might want or accept the job besides those two? All I know is I'm gonna miss Uncle Joe.
Obviously, we're all hoping for that magical Trump-Palin ticket, with Crazy Train blasting out at all their Naziesque rallies. Barring that, however, Sessions or Gingrich are the only names that come to my mind, as well.
Warren is so clearly the best choice, but not really someone I can see Team Clinton being comfortable with. So we are going to get a major ********-up candidate, I fear.
I like Kaine (he represents me), and his replacement would be picked by a democratic governor, but I think he is too low key and boring to be a good campaigner. Not that I know anything about most of the others.
Two old women from the Northeast ... seems unlikely. Then again, Hillary could figure that the math is that Trump has lost the college-educated moderates, so maybe there's no harm done in swinging left and firing up the base. She would get big numbers from the traditional Dems, and would end up getting the suburban purples too. She does have some leeway in devising strategy against Trump. He leaves a lot of open territory in his wake.
Prepare to be disappointed. The first rule of picking a #2 is not to have a person who can upstage the #1. And Warren could do that to Clinton. In a hurry.
Is that true? Hmmm, maybe. VPs do tend to be unmemorable, aside from Ms. Palin, and she was not an example to be repeated.
Only VP I can think of who might have upstaged the President was Johnson. Palin certainly didn't outshine McCain, she was just a trainwreck of near-Biblical proportions.
What about President Chaney who was the mastermind of the Evil Doer regime? Bush was just a puppet, a guy you'd want to have a beer with, which is an ironic thing to say about a recovering alcoholic.
Nah. Marijuana legalization has decimated Colorado and Washington's opiate and pain killer addiction rates. Cheney is more like the evil doctor or family friend that "recommends" addictive pain killers or ... why not ... heroin ... to keep you sedated and on the couch all day while he takes care of things for you. Thank god we now have Heroin AM!
That sounds like it would be counterproductive considering how many of them threw Warren under the bus for even endorsing Clinton (after she'd already won the nomination).
