Philippe Lambolay (Martial's agent) makes it very clear he'd sooner stay at the club, if it was up to him. No ambiguity there... www.espn.com/soccer/story/3524939/anthony-martial-wants-to-leave-manchester-united-this-summer-agent?src=com
Unhappy? I would not say unhappy, I would say he wants to play more period. Happy signifies he doesn't like the club, he is not settled in, he is not loved by the fans, the coach doesn't want to extend his salary. He wants to feel wanted and needed. And he is. Mou realizes that with our drop in form in January.
Typical "Jeff-logic"... The fact that he's not valued by Mourinho (and to an extent the club) is more than enough to make him unhappy. He's got the love of the fans and he loves them and the club right back, but that does not change the fact that he is, in fact, unsettled because he's not playing as much as he should. It's pretty straightforward really. The guy was in top form and arguably the best player of the club in February when it was taken all underneath him to accommodate Sanchez and make him an afterthought. If he was happy with his situation, he never would have asked to leave (especially when he's very comfortable and settled at the club). His agent laid out the situation and feelings perfectly and clearly.
Martial's desire to leave is sad but no surprise. www.espn.com/soccer/club/manchester-united/360/blog/post/3527297/anthony-martial-desire-to-leave-manchester-united-sad-but-no-surprise?src=com
Martial's future still up in the air? www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/21/anthony-martial-standoff-future-manchester-united United have to stand firm and flex their muscles (first by not letting Martial leave, then trigger his extension). After that, they need to do whatever it takes to win him back over in the coming year to show to him how really valued he is, in hopes of having him sign a new contract. Risky tactic and one that would see us lose some money if he's still determined to leave in a year's time, but worth it, if there's just a chance to fix things with him. Not to mention, by next summer Mourinho could be gone as well (and that's the crux of the problem right there). Good on the club to slap an £89mil valuation on him, according to Castles: Chelsea and Bayern are said to be interested, but haven't come anywhere near the asking price...
Mourinho on the rumors concerning Martial. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-anthony-martial-news-14939805
Although it wasn't all his fault, Martial has not been up to scratch in the 2 games so far. And being one of the guys with something to prove, it's disappointing. The odds are good that we'll keep him, but as previously mentioned there is still work to do, to get him to sign a new contract (even if Mourinho leaves next summer). Don't see him getting much playing time this season, with Sanchez still being Mourinho's preferred choice on the left and Lukaku being the obvious one at CF. Therefore making it another frustrating season ahead potentially for Martial. Best hope is that he settles into the super sub role he was so effective in at the start of last season. Hopefully ten, he gets enough games and does well enough to keep him happy.
He has zero incentive to play for this manager. He did what was asked of him last season...and he was shit on costing him a squad place in his National team, and having to watch the person replacing him play awfully game after game and never get benched. Imagine you were doing well in your job, did what was asked of you..and then they replaced you and demoted you. Then you watch your replacement do an awful job...while your manager says nothing bad about him and bad mouths you and accuses you of laziness.... ..then when you ask to leave to find a better job away from the insults and double standards.....they won't let you leave. Fck that. Nobody can blame him next season if he plays half arsed when called on....playing well gets him nowhere.
Hang on just a lil bit, I am hoping by Christmas Mourinho would have been outplayed and got himself sacked.
Mourinho could let Martial go, but only to a non Prem club. www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/23/jose-mourinho-anthony-martial-transfer-manchester-united The good news here I guess is that none of the clubs outside of the Prem, who are interested in him appear ready to meet United's valuation. Curious to see where this all goes (especially if he's at the club for the coming season).
The worst thing for Martial would have been watching the NT win the World Cup. Even if he’d been Dhorasoo / Rami, his resentment for Mou must be the sort of thing Japanese ghost children would find ‘a bit much’.
Berbatov was recently asked about Martial and he responded that he needs to stay at the club. He used to play with him at Monaco, he knows how he plays and he's nowhere close to reaching his full potential. He added that the board and Mourinho need to come together (and figure this out), because United is the best club for him. That's a guy who's been around the block, did not necessarily have the greatest tenure at United, yet the way he speaks about the club really says it all. Obviously, he's right about Martial: we'll be sorry if we let him. It's pretty much a fait accompli, as far as I'm concerned. The fact that he loves the club, the fans and would prefer to stay if it was up to him, makes what's going on all more nauseating...
It'd be pretty tough to support this team if they let Martial walk away. Lets be real, I'll still be here... but it'll be a hard pill to swallow.
Hey FH, can you elaborate on why you'd find it difficult to support United if Martial leaves? We've let other, and much more massive names such as Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Beckham and Ronaldo, go in the past and presumably you remained a United supporter. But what's different about Martial? Surely it can't be argued that Martial has been more brilliant -- or as put by another poster here "awesome" -- than any of those four. And surely it can't be argued that Anthony Martial puts in 100% effort every game, regardless of his potential. So what is it that you has of a mind to possibly no longer support United if the club lets Martial go? Thanks!
The other four were encouraged and allowed to prosper here and made their name in footballing world. Martial is being shunted and his growth as a player slowed at every opportunity jose gets. That's bad.
Because it would be a sign that the people running the club are stupid enough to sell out the future of the club and its brightest talents for a morose dead man walking.
Can't help wondering what Martial will be thinking after hearing about Mourinho's comments about him not being there. That was as bad as it gets and just out of order from Mourinho: Martial (rightfully so IMO) should be irate.
