Don’t get too excited. There is no indication in the announcement that she is giving up the technical director gig.

So whoever gets the youth director gig ( which Jill had before she became uswnt coach and which April added to her own portfolio in the Sermanni coup) will still answer to April.

God I just hope they revamp the whole system. Too many really good soccer minds that know these kids that are not involved. Hienrichs is the tip of the buddy system iceberg. Bring it down

Probably setting up buddy Carr to take on the role. She probably only stepped into the role while he "built his resume". Mind you, his resume is built on connections not actual coaching success.

Dennis Rodman's daughter, Trinity Rodman is on the U-17 team.
She'll be playing in the World Cup.

She turned out better looking than her father.
We may have a special on her later.

She is one of 3 ACLs who are out after participating in wcq.

It's u17 girls, acl injury is the default answer for missing players.

1084255058026479616 is not a valid tweet id

his son got a call to the u.s. u15s, so maybe the daughter is eligible.

maybe the dad is simply doing pr. but I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this in the women's game soon.

In the four-team tournament, the USA will face regional foe Mexico on May 13, Russia on May 15 and host Portugal on May 17. All the U.S. games will be played at Estádio São Sebastião in Mirandela."

I encourage everyone to read the 'unique' rules, also included.

    ^^^^ case in point:

watch the whole game on espn3 if you can - recent youth level powerhouse spain vs the up'n coming and investing dutch.

really good soccer. spain hits the woodwork at least 3 times. the dutch girls seem bigger but still skilled and tactically astute....

[acl injury also seems the default answer as to why the first goal scorer had to leave the game a minute or so after putting the ball in the back of the net.]

I think all the tèams at La Manga had players born in 2000 and later ie first year of the two years U-20 cycle.

While I wish we could be world beaters at all age groups the fact is that the only age group that matters is the senior team.

The are no cases that show a direct correlation between performance at lower age groups and performance at the senior level. But there are numerous cases that show that a winning record at the various junior levels actually results in poorer performance as the players age.

There are numerous possible reasons for this but the most obvious reason is that you need an EXTREMELY (which the US has) large pool to select the few that will make it at the senior level while it takes a smaller, more focused, pool to succeed at the younger ages. The US pool of players at U20 is so large that many will be missed for top positions but a few years after that the pool thins and it tends to favor those with large pools so that it is less likely that burnouts or drops in performance will hurt the team.

When a female player is missed in say Nigeria she is gone forever because she finds other pursuits but in countries like the US they often play at a lower level and get discovered/rediscovered later in life.

That is not to say that I do not enjoy watching the younger age groups, I do. I would have to turn in my "Dirty old man" badge if I did not like seeing girls or young women getting hot and sweaty. The younger age groups just have a lesser meaning for soccer.

    ussoccer, parents, fans....

anyone who paid the first pennies to start regular uswnt camps and later on give them contracts so they could play the game without having to get second jobs.

thats the way we built up our early advantage in the women’s game.

I wonder if the existence of sports programs in universities gives the U.S. an advantage in developing mature players. A large number of Americans play soccer in college -- whereas in Nigeria, or even in some European countries, the opportunities to play soccer at the amateur level are much fewer.

I actually believe that any positives that arise from college soccer are more than offset by the extreme negatives. College and High school are cesspools of development where players do not really progress but rather stagnate.

Better would be a true sports academy where the kids really play/practice most of the year and attend classes in the morning. There should be none of the fluff and other extraneous activity that detracts from development of both the person and the athlete.

The only thing that is good is that college and HS keeps players playing at a low level but, while that is good, they do not develop much at all.

Of course many other countries do not even have that so I guess that is a positive for us as well.
