Unfortunate Morgan couldn't do better on that wide open header from a free kick.

It looked like Ellis fell to sleep writing in her diary.

35' 2-0 Sauerbrunn fk at midfield wide left, to 9m 2/5 right, Morgan hop-heads directly to Díaz.

36' 2-0 Saenz right throw-in at 24m, to R.Rodríguez shielding at arc top box right -- bumped down, foul.

37' 2-0 Alvarado fk at arc top wide right, outswings to 6-left foot -- too high, over.

37' 2-0 USA up mid-right lane, Lloyd long cross disrupted. Morgan taps to Horan, back to Morgan -- a too-cute touch there exposes ball, CRC clears.

38' 2-0 Saenz right throw-in at own 25m, heaved upfield. CRC dribbles back, arm-shielding Horan -- ball leaks off foot, Pugh darts in and left-sole-drags it past Saenz, bursts through wide-open down wide left to 12m. Cross blocked over.

40' 2-0 CRC chip high to 35m centerline, Sauerbrunn outjumps Barrantes for it.

41' 2-0 Pugh crosses to Morgan at box top mid-left, she spins but loses it. Bad clearance pass, Klingenberg steps in front, sharp pass to Pugh spinning down box left. Saenz gets one touch, Pugh turns away, backpass to Klingenberg. #4 Benavides is down in a ball at 6-top center -- did not see why. Cross, Díaz catches, kicks into near touch. Stoppage.

43' 2-0 Benavides trots around endline to 4R. CRC resumes with 10 for 1 play?
43' 2-0 Pugh left throw-in, fair-play down to Villalobos(?). I assume Benavides is back on.

45' 2-0 Klingenberg left throw-in at 27m, over Morgan but Villalobos(?) heads into near touch.
45' 2-0 Klingenberg left throw-in at 15m, to Morgan spinning to 4m box left, CRC heads it out.
45' 2-0 Klingenberg left throw-in at 7m, to Horan at 4m box left -- takedown on the spin, no call. +5'.

The USWNT needs an A and B team cause they are all so good. Both would end up in the Olympics

45+1' (of +5') 2-0 Díaz comes out to 27m centerline to play with her feet vs. no pressure.
45+2' (of +5') 2-0 Klingenberg tricky backpass to endline 4-right, Solo clears upfield. Lloyd settles at circle back mid-right, chip toward box top left sends Morgan into an orthogonal race with Díaz coming acoss. Díaz wins, slide-pokes into near touch as Morgan hops.

45+3' (of +5') 2-0 Klingenberg(?) serves to ~12m center, Lloyd bumped down as CRC puts it over -- no call.

45+4' (of +5') 2-0 USA left ck, headed across. O'Hara collects through box right, spins down wide right to 4m box right, cross cleared away. Klingenberg(?) settles, chips over the scrum -- four USA players all offside, lazing in the heat.

45+5' (of +5') 2-0 O'Hara collects on a sprint up wide right to 27m mid-right, jukes inside past 1, gazelle-leaps past a trailing thigh -- trips over it, foul.

45+6' (of +5') 3-0 Sauerbrunn fk at 27m mid-right, to 8m 3-left. Lloyd leaps and turns a perfect header just inside left post, past Díaz's dive. Morgan jumping at 1/5 left distracted 2 defenders and froze Díaz.

    HT 3-0.

    Half
    USA 3 Costa Rica 0

If not for the stoppage, the half times of this game and USA-Argentina men's basketball would have aligned much better.

Costa Rica have skills, but their tiny population base just doesn't produce athletes like we've got. This match is a mismatch in cool conditions, it's brutal in the heat.

    46' 3-0 USA subs in:
    - (1 of 6) #18 Alyssa Naeher for #1 Hope Solo
    - (2 of 6) #11 Ali Krieger for #7 Meghan Klingenberg (and O'Hara flips to LB)
    - (3 of 6) #6 Whitney Engen for #4 Becky Sauerbrunn.

46' 3-0 USA serve from ~box top left into 6, cleared to box top right. Pugh (on the right now) settles, chip toward 1/4 left batted around, cleared.

49' 3-0 Lloyd gathers at 15m box right, does cutbacks to shake #12 L.Rodríguez, final spin ccw to 5m mid-right. Hard ground cross to 12m 1/3 left, Horan runs on and shoots across mouth -- off right post, bounces out to 12m 1/4 right. Morgan shoves somebody off ball, hooks a shot -- in or out? Foul anyways.

    Horan off the post!

Lloyd was confusedly toying with her defender before that. She eventually decided to turn toward the open end line and send a cross.

52' 3-0 Johnston et al. are way up at circle top(!) now. Pass up box right, screen freezes. Dunn left cross to 6m 1/4 left, Morgan out-lunges a defender and flicks a header juuust wide right low.

53' 3-0 Saenz chases through box top mid-right to 4m, Naeher charges out and dives on ball, slides torso-to-torso into Saenz also sliding. No call(?).

57' 3-0 Morgan cuts back at 15m box right to 14m mid-right, left instep bend directly into Díaz's upraised hands, blocked away. Krieger dribbles to arc top wide right, shross sails way off-line, wide right and over.

59' 3-0 Pugh dances away from #7 Herrera just past midfield box right, Herrera reaches out and pulls her down with both hands. Foul, Pugh just smiles.

60' 3-0 Engen fk, Lloyd chases to 3m right post, Díaz sit-catches ball, Lloyd mis-times her hop and uses Díaz's inside left knee as springboard? Brief stoppage.

62' 3-0 Pugh give-and-go at circle right but Lloyd underhits the return pass, CRC ping it away. Alvarado fouled at circle top left?

63' 3-0 Costa Rica subs in (1 of 6) #9 Carolina Venegas for #11 Raquel Rodríguez.
63' 3-0 USA subs in (4 of 6) #12 Christen Press for #13 Alex Morgan.

A lot of contact between not-Solo and a Costa Rican. She should have gone for the ball a bit earlier, but I was surprised there was no foul called.

Will someone please tell this guy how to pronounce Horan's name? The a is the strong syllable, not the o.

67' 3-0 Press offside through box top mid-right.

69' 3-0 USA long service to 6-top 1/5 right, Benavides outjumps Johnston and heads over.
70' 3-0 Pugh right ck, to 6-top 1/4 left, Díaz catches high.

71' 3-0 Pugh drives down to box right foot, rides off Benavides's tired shoulder-charge, stays upright as Benavides goes down. Cross blocked over.

72' 3-0 Pugh right ck, cleared. Pugh crosses from wide right to 8m left post, headed over. Offside anyways.

73' 3-0 Krieger fk at 25m box right, ground pass down wide right to Pugh.
74' 3-0 Press shoots from ~arc top low, spins wide left.

    75' 3-0 2H water break. 92°F = 33.3°C, 58% humidity.

Attendance tonight is 12,635. Hot day here, but still a little disappointing for an Olympic sendoff

Good finish by Press makes it 4-0

She was alone along that line and finished with power.
