And then there was that time Jay Berhalter arranges things in such a way that we had no real Coach for 18 months after our epic failure, conducted an obvious sham of a coaching search, only interviewed two candidates and ended up hiring Jay Berhalter’s brother. I bumped this because we have a tendency to discuss each colossal misstep by the federation in a vacuum, as if these calamitous errors are not a pattern and more importantly, by design. These kind of things lead to hiring a mediocre MLS coach, which in turn leads to losing to the likes of Canada.
The cherry on top is that Jay's Brother's "system" is being forced on our U-17's. It's disgusting. Individually, the guys all looked talented. But, they were stuck trying to play keep away the whole match in our defensive end. Didn't take Senegal long to figure out that we would *never* pass the ball behind their defenders, so they just pressed everyone up. Jay's Brother's System is a JOKE and it's a crime that it's being forced on our teams at all levels. Berhalter out, Ellis in.
I’ll be interested to see if USSF gets its guaranteed $30m this year from SUM. it’s exactly in scenarios like these that having a guaranteed payment is useful. it’s possible that MLS has included language however that prevents USSF from getting paid even though that would be very stupid for USSF to allow.
Multiple sources tell @samstejskal and me that MLS has hired former USSF executive Jay Berhalter as a consultant. Sources say Berhalter has been involved in conversations around the new MLS academy league.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) April 17, 2020
Well that seems about right. I’m guessing the youth development funded through MLS will be.....monolingual?
