In case we haven't had enough in the way of news yet, the new training center got a shout-out about US Soccer officially partnering with this new coaching development center. This is encouraging given the complete lack of news about this lately... It started to feel like it was dead in the water. http://next.mlssoccer.com/post/2014...-player-development-structures-youth-national
I could be imagining this but am pretty sure Robb either tweeted or said something about ground breaking starting January 2015. Might have been on his recent 810 radio spot.
It was in his flyntweet thing today, and it was March. The Garden City letter also mentioned first quarter of 2015.
Crickets on this as far as I know. Any news? Anyone local know if ground is being moved yet for this thing?
No, not crickets, Heineman has said in his Q&A's over the winter that ground is scheduled to be broken in the spring. Here's what he said earlier this month. “@kfb59261: @RobbHeineman Ground breaking on training center this spring?” Already prepping site #skctweetchat— Robb Heineman (@RobbHeineman) February 12, 2015
the plan was tabled. http://www.bizjournals.com/kansasci...discussion-about-75m-soccer-village-deal.html
Still 2017. Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman said U.S. Soccer has agreed to a 20-yr lease to be primary tenant in the facility (slated for '17 opening).— Sam McDowell (@SamMcDowell11) April 10, 2015
Those OnGoal guys are really good at using money that isn't necessarily all theirs. I'll be interested what type of non primary tenants are involved in leases as well.
figured this would happen sooner than later, Sporting will move their training site to the US Soccer facility around 2017 leaving Swope to SPR and FCKC. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/article88537472.html
With Sporting moving to KCK in 2017/2018 appx, and leaving Swope to SPR and FCKC, does that leave the door open in the future for a possibility of OnGoal "reorganizing" ownership to have a couple of the guys sell their ownership in SKC and solely own SPR? Not sure if they would do that, but with the restrictions on MLS owned USL teams (specifically regarding US Open Cup and sale of merchandise), it might be a workaround to have a better experience for SPR in USL. The disadvantages would be losing the shared costs they have right now using the same training facility, event staff, office staff, trainers, etc. Would OnGoal even consider something like this? Again, I'm not saying they would, just wondered if it would be something feasible to do. I guess that would all depend on how things are going with SPR at that time.
You divide up and then the problem for SKC becomes not having control of SPR the way they do now. Sure they'd still get along but the division of potential profit is much bigger (and probabaly much closer to reality) for MLS teams vs USL teams. Any of the OnGoal members would be foolish to sell now and take over a minor league team. And really whaT are the restrictions for MLS owned USL teams beside not playing in the USOC? That's not a huge restriction certainly not one that would make me want to sell my shares in OnGoal to take over.
