Knowing that security was going to be ugly, I emailed the Crew FO beforehand because we were going to need to have a Uhaul Trailer and wanted to make certain we would be ok. We were told that as long as it was nowhere near the stadium, we were fine.
Wondering if there was some type of threat? Columbus did have 2 guys that were planning to blow up stuff, one being a mall here and the Brooklyn bridge.
Those guys are in jail. Ayman Faris, the Somali AQ guy was scouting Polaris mall but was caught. If I remember right he was a truck driver who traveled around and is also the guy plotting the Brooklyn bridge attack. The Times Square bomber used to be an accountant for a company I worked for. I talked to a couple of people in our Connecticut office and they remembered him as non-fanatical. There's a guy in Hilliard who is a big cheese in Sunni fundamentalist circles and friendly with the leadership of Hamas. In theory big crowds are targets for terrorists so there is a heavy law enforcement presence to protect the spectators. That sometimes turns into a heavy presence to control the spectators. Chipotle is always good. I ate there before the game in 09 because devouring Mexican was a good prep for cheering against Mexicans.
First thought: Ok...that's supposed to be funny, but it's actually quite scary. Second thought: That's what we get when we have that "lowest bidder gets the contract" business.
Good thing he wasn't hungry...oh wait. Oddly, I don't remember seeing any bomb dogs. Then again, I got turned off by the long lines outside the main gates and went in via the stadium club entrance where there was almost no line at all.
I thought it was City Center, but maybe that was just the running joke at the time, considering by that point, CC was practically given the wrecking ball orders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Shopping_Mall_bombing_plot
I got the full Prom Date treatment. I was planning on asking him to kiss me but my wife doesn't much care for bailing me out of jail.
The poor guy in front of me was really drunk. He had two flasks he was trying to smuggle in. He went Cero a Dos against the wand.
Yesterday I got to read some of the many examples of overzealous cop antics, and ridiculous arrests and such. Today I read something even worse: http://www.wishtv.com/news/local/police-officer-shot-on-northwest-side For what it's worth, most of the officers I've met would much rather be taking real calls for service, such as this one, than writing alcohol citations to college kids.
