It doesn't appear that Dish Network is going to carry the US vs. Canada game on Jan 18th on PPV so I'm looking for a place to watch the game in the Raleigh-Durham area. 1) Does anyone know of a pub or sports bar that will be showing the game in this area? 2) Is anyone that has DirectTV interested in hosting a watching party? I'd be happy to contribute to the PPV fee or return the favor for the next PPV match on Dish or for one of the Premier League derbies on PPV. Thanks in advance, Jarrett jarrett@engineer.com
It doesn't seem that Time-Warner is carrying the game either. Setanta (who does have the feed) lists the bars in the area as Woody's in Cary, Sammy's in Raliegh and the Soccerdome in Raliegh. I'll call around and post good results if any. I'd also be willing to pitch in if there is a DirecTV subscriber around.
i was faced with the same problem, i subscribed to DISH, so i switched to DirectTV...should have do so back when DISH offered an inferior MLS package and then failed to carry the U-20 qualifiers.
Not looking good... Walter, the manager at Woody's in Cary called Setana and they quoted him $350 to carry the game. He says that if we can find enough people to cover the cost (in addition to any food and drink we order) that he'll show it. So in other words, if we can't get 35 people to shell out 10 bucks cover, we're out of luck at Woody's. I still haven't heard back from my queries at SoccerDome America. That's probably our best (and last) chance at this point. I also talked to someone at Setana and they said that Dish had definitely passed on the option (as well as the FA Cup PPV) so not to expect them to add it in the next week or so. Jarrett
Hmm, I can think of 4 BS posters right off the top of my head that might be able to come. Me, Superdave, Andymead (if he does not go), Mario Kempes. Include yourself and that is 5. That is halfway there. Any spouses or girlfriends can be thrown in there as well. I can talk my brother in law and his sister into going if there are in town.
No it was 35 people at 10 bucks, not 10 people at 35 bucks! Plus Andy is going to the game per a post he sent me from the USASupporters list. I'm sure there must be somebody in Raleigh with DirectTV that is willing to host us. We'll pay the fee, bring the beer and chips, all you have to do is provide the sofa!
Whoops. Just woke up. And not a math person really. Yea, that is my excuse. 35 people might be tough to come up with.
Re: Re: USMNT vs. Canada TV Raleigh-Durham Area? I could probably just subscribe to Direct TV at that rate
Re: Re: Re: USMNT vs. Canada TV Raleigh-Durham Area? well, you probably wright but, having diner and watching tv w/ me is priceless....,
Just to clarify, I DO NOT have DirecTV. I have only Time Warner Digital Cable. So I can't host this one. Some soccer fan in the RDU area must have DirecTV. United States vs Canada January 18 at 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT LIVE on DirecTV PPV: $19.95 We can get 5-10 people and get this puppy down to $2-$4 per person. By the way, this belongs in Fans & Travel.
I'm going out to Soccer Dome Thursday and will ask then. Surely one soccer person/family in the Triangle has DirecTV...maybe through one of the soccer clubs?
Count my wife and me in as two more willing to pay $2-4 for DirectTV (plus beer 'n chips of course) or the $10 at Woody's if that becomes a possibility.
Did any of you contact one of my housemates? I said in my usa supporters message that they may be willing to host a watch party. Don't PM me asking who they are. They're around.
That was my gut instinct when I first saw the thread title. They cover pretty much everything. Let us know how that turned out. . .
So forgive me for being new to this area as well as BigSoccer, but who are Andy's housemates? If I knew, I'd contact them
Since they're not posting here - it looks like one is working and the other uninterested. Sorry guys.
I've got DISH. No watch party hosting for me. I might be able to make it somewhere (with cash in hand) to watch the match, however. I'll need to negotiate it with my wife (note to self: pick up flowers on way home tonight).
A ray of hope !?!? I just spoke with Diane at SoccerDome and she said she "thinks" they will be showing the game (and mentioned that someone (NCFire?) stopped by yesterday to ask the same question). She took my name and number and said someone would get back to me with a definite answer this weekend. Jarrett
Dang. I made plans to go see the little lady for that weekend. No way in heck anywhere in Milledgeville, Ga is going to show this match. Need to talk her into coming up here.
