I suppose the Welsh federation determined that playing the US was beneath them. They may have a point.
I already know the USSF is about raking in the cash. But not playing in the WC next summer will cost them. Dearly. One would think USSF would start to work NOW to ensure that it doesn’t lose future revenue, if that’s really all it’s about.
Did not know this. Thank you. I guess you could say they.... Wait for it....... They Welshed out on it! Thank you. I’ll be here all week. (or is that “racist” these days?)
To be honest, I was hoping they would vote for independence. Then the next morning, I would have sent the tanks, and the air force in, and subjugated them to a reign of terror not seen since Genghis Khan.
Wales probably pulled out because they thought they were in the playoffs for the World Cup. Ooof that’s a tough gut punch for the boyos They’d fancy a game now against a fellow nation also free from complicated travel/matches in the summer.
You may still be able to fulfill your fantasy. I'm no expert, but I think there is talk of another vote. You might find this amusing. It came out around the time of the referendum. "...and those who enjoy crawling like worms beneath British boots!" LOL After the referendum failed, Fox released this picture.
Fox Sports 1 is televising the WC draw. I’ve watched previous draws live with great anticipation to see who the Stars and Stripes will play. Watching this year is such a letdown.
Might it be correct to assume that the U.S., had they finished third by tying or winning, would have been drawn in the same group with England and Belgium in place of Panama who would have finished fourth and played Australia?
Please please please let this happen... Jurgen Klinsmann interested in vacant Australia job - report http://www.espn.com/soccer/australi...ann-interested-in-vacant-australia-job-report
While that would be nice, there aren't many anglophone nations in this year's WC (I guess usually there aren't many others normally; us, Jamaica, Trinidad, Middle-earth are English speakers). While they're in a tough group, I'd hate to see things be harder fro them by JK being their coach...
Meh... I don't have that thing where I like other English speaking countries just because they speak English, so I don't really care.
USSF making a really smart play as they groom Kathy Carter to be his replacement. I don't know her personally, but electing a woman has to be enticing for lots of people within USSF as a progressive move. Too bad she's president of SUM. She's stepped down from that role, but I don't want anyone from SUM to take over. Martino would be my choice.
I think Kathy Carter would be great. I'm not really interested in having a player take over. US Soccer is not a soccer team; it's an organization. And the President's job has very little to do with actual soccer decisions. It's about management, fundraising, community outreach and politics. Being a former player has about as much to do with running the United States Soccer Federation as having a pen pal has to do with being Postmaster General.
Damn boy, I see someone else was celebrating Repeal day. We want less SUM influence at the top level.
Who’s “we?” Got a mouse in your pocket? I know we are supposed to believe that SUM is the devil, it’s evil, and it’s the enemy of all mankind because they’re putting the screws to us right now. I get the rage. But SUM is largely in charge of the most successful soccer league the country’s ever seen. She’s certainly more qualified for a business position than someone who used to score goals.
Good article about Carter's candidacy, with an overview of the other candidates: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/05/sports/soccer/kathy-carter-us-soccer-election.html
