So not only is US Soccer selling a $164 jersey to commemorate this sad period of US Soccer, but it looks like Trapp and Steffen are pissing off to Ireland to play in a meaningless cash grab exhibition. So Toronto have Altidore (who would be available except he's injured again) and Bradley, two players who botched the qualification effort and would likely be in Ireland instead, available for the match on the weekend. Booooooooooooooooooooooo!
Why would they bring European players for the Match on US soil and then haul off MLS players to Europe. Now they miss Toronto, USOC, and NY....great, just great. Screw you USMNT
We knew this might happen. Bradley is a shadow of his former self. Chicago is weak. NY will be a problem. Better to bloody younger players against better competition. They didn’t get called in for lowly Bolivia. A bit surprised they didn’t call in GZ.
I thought Sargent looks ready for pro minutes this fall. His movement and touch was really good. I think he has a bright future.
Finish wasnt great but I think he has the brains plus the skills to be a top player. We don't have a lot with both of those qualities
Notes live from the game. 1) These kids need to learn to play with each other. 2) The Bill Hamid experiment is dead. He is terrible. Bad positioning, bad calling, bad instincts. Any manager or coach who calls him up or puts a jersey on him should be fired on the spot. God dammit.
If I'm Zack Steffen and don't get the next start, I start doing some family research to find a new passport.
Agreed. Honestly, no one over 30 should be playing for the US, arguably a year or two younger as well.
Given some of the great things that Michael Bradley has done for the USMNT in his career (and I'm not saying he has a spotless record, to be sure, so don't @ me), I feel it should be pointed out that because of Toronto's injury woes, they've got him playing center back, which isn't his position. So him looking bad in league play right now isn't completely surprising. As much as we enjoyed seeing him get taken to the cleaners last night, he's not really being set up to succeed. Not that I disagree with the main point -- his national career is done.
Yes thank you for your service to the team. Here is your last cap versus Antigua. Clap Clap, thanks for everything. There is the door (should have happened 2 years ago).
Anyone know when USSF is planning on naming our next coach or what the hell they're waiting for? Do they have someone lined up for after the WC or something?
They may go with an MLS coach and want to wait until the end of the MLS season. Or they may want someone who is currently coaching in the World Cup (not necessarily a current head coach). Truth is that there's no real hurry. Get someone set after MLS cup and then have a good winter camp in Florida. Second (and I just realized this) is that Earnie Stewart was just named GM/Sporting Director of the Nats. It's normal for club teams in any sport to get a GM in place first before making any coaching/managing decisions.
It's good to see that the ball Bradley used for his PK finally made it to Mars. https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/07/us/nasa-mars-curiosity-rover-findings/index.html
Bad M********r gets the start and has a clean sheet at the half. Trapp with a nice corner. Lovely one-touch by Julian Green nutmegs a defender and sneaks past Lloris! 1-0 USA at the half.
Miazga and parker looked really good in defense. Adams's mobility is unreal, i have no doubt he'll end up with Leipzig after this season.
I fully expect Steffen to leave after the season. Keeping him until after the 2019 season is the absolute best case scenario, but also unlikely IMO. I think he's gone this winter or next summer.
