I saw a report from outside the stadium at the Channel 7 newscast at 5pm, and it looked like where they were filming it was all Honduras fans in the crowd.
We are watching on tv...from Los Angeles. I suppose we could wander around and try to find a sports bar but since my son is under 21, they might make him sit on the sidewalk.
Electrifying atmosphete at avaya stadium. I am in section 137 right behind the goal. Mostly USA fans with a handful of Hondurans.
LLEEEEETTTTGEEEETTTTT!!!! The Pride of Santa Clara Sporting!!!!!!! My daughter's sporting team used to scrimmage his, because they were both coached by Carlos Brazil.
Not only that, but the sidelines have been widened to 75 yards corner-flag to corner-flag (Dominic Kinnear's 72 yards wide sidelines were faded out for this game). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! -G
Absolutely! Is there a way to force Kinnear to keep the sidelines at today's width? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! -G
Besides the widened playing field, another nice thing today is the more enclosed feeling the new temporary southside stands have given the stadium today. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! -G
It's fun here. The card stunt during the national anthem doesn't work that well when big chunks of the expensive seats aren't full, but scoring three goals in the first half makes that a little better.
Avaya looks good on TV, but I miss the Ultras -- it doesn't sound like there is really any organized cheering.
Halftime in the stadium was a long video about salami, and then a stunning DJ remix of AC/DC's Thunderstruck. And while I was typing that, we scored. And while I was typing that, we scored again.
That's likely because we've gotten so used to watching home games played on too narrow a playing field and too open an end that it can be disorienting at first to suddenly see a properly wide playing field and a properly enclosed (to an extent) stadium. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! -G
