Sorry HardHatMike if this should not have been started. Klinsmann just announced his first roster for the Mexico thread. Kinda important so I wanted to get it out. ussoccer U.S. SOCCER #USMNT Roster: GK - Howard, Hamid; D-Bocanegra, Castillo, Chandler, Cherundolo, Goodson, Orozco Fiscal, Pearce, Ream... 8 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply ussoccer U.S. SOCCER #USMNT Roster, Pt. 2: MF- Beckerman, Bradley, Clark, Edu, Jones, Shea, Torres; F- Adu, Agudelo, Beasley, Buddle, Donovan 8 minutes ago Thoughts?
Re: Klinsmann's First Roster I think he wanted to see first-hand the awesomeness of Ream and a few of the others.
Re: Klinsmann's First Roster Perfect. Thanks. MLS_Analyst Matthew Doyle Definitely has the smell of a 4-2-3-1: Howard; Chandler, Goodson, Boca, Castillo; Jones, Bradley; Donovan, Adu, Shea; Buddle #USlineup 5 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Shocked that Buddle, Beasley, Pearce, and REAM got called in. Ream is riding some sort of perceived reputation but he has not been very good lately. Certainly not good enough for the NT.
Re: Klinsmann's First Roster For young guns I’d still rather see Omar Gonzalez and George John than Ream.
I will admit I was intrigued with Tim Ream from his MLS play but I do not like him at the International level. Marshall has been so consistent in MLS for years I feel like that should be rewarded with a call up. Landon is listed as a FW on the roster so take that for what its worth (Bob listed him as a MF). Will be interesting to see what he puts out there.
Can someone explain why someone from the backline from one of the worst defenses in the league would get a call up??? Tim Ream??? Really??
MLS_Analyst Matthew Doyle Re: Tim Ream, he's going to get chances til he gets it right. More than any other player can change the way the US plays. JK loves him. 8 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Looks like we will be seeing more of him And those asking about Marshall. ColumbusCrew Columbus Crew @MLS_Analyst When would you expect Chad Marshall to get a chance? 5 minutes ago MLS_Analyst Matthew Doyle @ColumbusCrew I think Marshall will get a look in January, but I would take him over Goodson right now. 2 minutes ago Just one guys opinion though.
Chad Marshall also has quite a history with concussions, right? Have we not said that one more concussion could be a potential career-ending one? In this case, club over country, especially when the "country" is a friendly. Yes, the game against Mexico does give the new coach a chance to scout the roster, but given Chad's history, the next WC is a long way off, and i'd rather Chad stay safe.
I would rather a healthy Chad but he DESERVES a call up. Every player is one bad tackle from their career being over. He has earned a call up and should get one.
My guess is that Klinsmann has exactly no time to prepare for this so he calls in most of the usual suspects and gets through the friendly as well as he/they can. Then he steps back and starts to call in different guys for looks. I would fully expect Chad to get a fair look under a new coach.
This is PRECISELY what I thought when I saw the roster, and exactly what I expected him to do. There's only so much he can do in a week. And he wants to have a shot at getting a result from this match. So look at the regular ingredients that are already in the fridge before cleaning it out and re-stocking it. Klinsmann's probably thinking, "OK, Bradley called this guys in for a reason. So let's see what they have, and see how they react to a different environment." And I agree with this completely. Plus, he did bring in Brek Shea and Edson Buddle, as well as some other guys that aren't/haven't been part of the regular mix. I'm sure others, including Chad Marshall are on his radar, but you can't bring in everybody.
Re: Post-Game | Crew @ Colorado [R] Rogers twitter reporting he is heading to Philly. Must have been called up for MNT.
Re: Post-Game | Crew @ Colorado [R] Timmy Chandler is not going to be on the roster for the Mexico game. Maybe with his absence then Rogers got the call.
