Now that things are cranking up for the clubs and I have some time on my hands I thought I would try to do a daily update of update of team press releases and news articles in a thread each week Feel free to add your teams news if I miss it but it would be great if you but commentary and opinionated peices somewhere else: so here it goes: News Jan 31 -Feb 6 Charleston Battery: Carolina Challenge Cup update: Charlie Davies to DC United? The Roster...so far Charlotte Eagles: Charlotte Eagles' Invitational Combine a success Harrisburg City Islanders: Tomer Chencinski signs with vps in finland Wilmington Hammerheads: Hammerheads add midfielder, Tom Taylor Hammerheads sign campbell product, Richard Jata Bringing the Hammersheads back Dayton Dutch Lions: Dutch Lions hire new coach and technical director Orlando City SC Olando to play BK Hacken Orlando City to play in Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic FC New York FC New York preseason matches LA Blues A look back at the Blues combine Blues partner with Resolution Sports Like I said Im sure I missed some and there are some that are dated a couple days before Jan. 31
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 El Sevilla FCPR pide aplazar un año su entrada en la USL norteamericana Sevilla looks like it dosnt want to play in 2011
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 Interesting, wonder what the personal reason is to sit out for a year? How accurate is this blog? is it National Enquire type or a NYT? Also Wimington Hammerheads New turf approved by council Also in the article is the deal with the city for the lease of Legion Field at the cost of $850 a game and a 75/25 split on concessions, Hammerheads getting 75% and the city 25%
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 Well i dont know how accurate it is but i friend of mine who is a reporter for a actual newspaper said he may write a story about it, the Sevilla owner is very sick and cant run the club according to the friend. Heres his tweete His saying that that blog kinda jump the gun and the options are being discussed right now.
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 thanks for the updates My spanish isnt that great and alot gets lost in the google translation feature.
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 The article says that the Sevilla Puerto Rico president Sir Calvete had to resign for personal reasons And now it is extremely difficult to find a new president knowing that it will cost a lot of time and a lot of money

Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 By the way, did we ever find out how much NuRock actually paid for the USL? Or the value of the Umbro/Nike sponsorship? Sorry if this is in the wrong place...
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 heard some numbers around $10M for USL thrown around not sure how accurate they are. As to the Umbro deal, I havent heard but they did give us USLlive over the the last couple years which I understand will be back. They were also named as the sponsor for the Championship match. I dont know if that was usl sweeteing the pot or Umbro further committing..
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 Only $10 mil? When an MLS franchise is now $40 mil? WSW suggestion $220m, but obviously that is way too high. I would guess somewhere between $80 and $100 mil. Does that sound in the right neighborhood or am I off base?
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 No it was 11 Million, there is a link somewhere in this forum, good luck searching for it.
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 USL founder Francisco ''expansion fee'' Marcos has been nominated for the US soccer hall of fame
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 What a horrible, horrible, horrible thing. To make money at the business of soccer. Ugh. We have (at the very least) 60+ PDL teams, 20+ NPSL teams, 11 USL Pro teams, among others, that we wouldn't have had but for Francisco Marcos. True, that model is outdated, but weight that against the whole of his contributions.
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 yes, of course the man made some contributions but expanding to markets that could not support D2 or D3 soccer, just taking expansion fees from ownerships groups that did not have nor the experience nor the money did a lot of harm to US soccer give me Garber, he only expands to GOOD markets
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 Did he overextend? Probably. Could he have been a better partner to some of the teams? Sure. But you don't reach as many venues as he did without pushing the limits, and (slightly sarcastically) as the great Jack Nicholson "Joker" said, you can't make an omelet without scrambling a few eggs.
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 THis are just rumors but people have been talking that Sevilla may not play in the USL Pro
Re: USL Pro News: Jan 31 -Feb 6 I heard something similar (due to the owner being sick and needing to concentrate on recovering) but I have been told by a few people that it shouldn't be an issue for the team playing this season.
I agree, they seem to have a good mix of experience and youth. I think people forget that Charlie has a bunch of great contacts both domestically and internationally. I hope they have a good season and have a pretty good draw of fans. And that some more teams out there come into the league next season.
