In other news, the Des Moines USL stadium has taken a huge leap forward. https://www.kcci.com/article/group-secures-land-for-60m-soccer-complex/30361986
Teams that need USL Championship teams... New Orleans, Riverside/Inland Empire, Milwaukee, Detroit (or Grand Rapids), Cleveland, Hampton Roads, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Fernando Valley, Fresno, New York (Staten Island, Brooklyn, Bronx), Boise
Too soon. They already have MLS and USL L1. I could see the Vaqueros going to NISA if they get their stadium built, though.
Dallas has been such a hotbed for soccer that I could see a separate franchise being successful in USLC if it opened up shop away from Frisco. Sort of the same deal with the San Fernando Valley/Central Coast and the Inland Empire. It would be good to tap into those areas, considering the wealth of talent, and the fact that it can an hour+ drive to Carson or downtown LA for them. Add in NYC area to that too... Maybe find somewhere not close to the Red Bulls or NYCFC. But, I believe New Orleans would be the biggest hit of all. They have all the same potential as the Las Vegas Lights if they were to get a good ownership group. Obviously though, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Cleveland would be give a lot of marketability to the league. And Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads, Fresno, and Boise are those fringe candidates. There are others too who could fit in this category. I’d say they’d be good if they had good ownership.
6,000 seat Virginia Beach Sportsplex stadium was literally built to house a USL type team. So many cities need to build such infrastructure. They have it. Just need good ownership to step up and use it.

And on the Louisville page, they are adding a U23 team to USL-2 also. USL-2 has added a huge number of teams this off season.
--------------------------------------- And now New Mexico United going to have U23 team in USL2 per Albuquerque Newspaper. Can't almost keep up with additions. Interesting to see USL-C adding teams to USL-2 MLS teams not as consistent with this and you also have to consider USL-1 is in between also. Common sense changes to our "Pyramid", need to be made or affiliations line up logically. A couple examples off the top of my head= MLS- Nashville USL-C Memphis USL- 1 Chattanooga USL-2 Nashville (a local team- could draw from Vandy, Middle Tenn colleges) ----------------------- MLS Dallas USL-C OKC USL-1 North Texas- already owned USL-2 Texas United (in nearby Arlington) ---------- MLS- Austin USL-C San Antonio (make peace) USL-1 Austin (Bold moves from C to 1 - I know requires cooperation for the good of the game) USL-2 Brazos Valley- short distance to Austin ------ Probably a ton of examples all over the country. (feel free to create your own) MLS & USL have generally cooperated (much to the chagrin of NASL-NISA-NPSL), SO why not just go the next step, define your levels , player movements, marketing and relationships on a geographical basis- since isn't there some kind of territorial rights anyway?

That is a kick ass stadium. love how is a man made earthen bowl. Hate to see it torn apart. Definitely seems way too big for HS football. but somehting like XFL would be great there.
the next Championship expansion club is Monterrey California but Baltimore, Cleveland, and Milwaukee are in discussions
The more interesting part is the comment that USL-C may cap out and more work to expand USL-1, which apparently have 5-10 more teams in the works. Can't find the article now on this. (Anyone?) Also, are any of these some of the USL-C "MLS-2" teams making the drop?
If the team ends up playing at California State University in Monterey Bay as is projected , that is only 70 miles from San Jose or an hour and 15 minute drive. They could easily partner with the Earthquakes and it would be a better partnership than with either Sacramento previously or with Reno at present.
---------------- CSMB is somewhat remote- going to be a drive in crowd. Do you market to Monterey only, or include Santa Cruz, Salinas etc ? I don't remember but who was that team years ago that played in the same area, their name and what stadium ?
Other than surfing and the beach boardwalk amusement rides , there isn’t much going on in SC as it’s mostly a beach town. They will probably use the Santa Cruz Breakers academy team as their youth team and market the Salinas area. From 1995–99 , the California Jaguars played at the Salinas Sports Complex. It’s located about ten miles from CSMB campus.
CSU Monterey Bay just seems a strange place to put a team. There's not a ton of people down that way...
The expansion fee was already paid, in this particular case. It's not a new team, it's just Fresno-FC-by-the-Sea.
Is that true? They've been talking about the Monterrey area for a little bit now. Even when Fresno FC was around.
Logistically, Beshoff still has his franchise rights from Fresno; if Monterey will help build a stadium, that's a quick solution. As far as the potential for a thriving #USL Championship club in a 28,289 person town largely isolated from other major cities... time will tell. https://t.co/P0SUAZLxwk— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) May 6, 2020 https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article236788128.html "Beshoff indicated in a separate interview that he’s had promising negotiations with California State University Monterey Bay to relocate the team to the soccer-only stadium at the campus."
It was my mistake, thanks and sorry. I looked and remembered that it has been talked about since late Fall 2019 that Fresno could relocate to Monterey. I had confused it with USL East Bay, which was announced in 2017 for 2021 play.
