Check out the Austin stadium rendering in this link: http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/821487?referrer_id=2333971 I thought they had to be minimum 5k. That looks Swope Park sized. Are they banking on standing room only?
I did some more looking on the Austin stadium. Apparently that rendering was originally for the new Barcelona academy setup on the site. They plan to enlarge the stadium for the new USL team. http://www.statesman.com/sports/bre...l-2019-000-seat-venue/6sBCjNXuGInuLgesJzpeTJ/.
It did look small, but I can understand using an existing rendering, rather than making a new one. Anyone know what that tall red thing in the background is?
That is the Observation Tower. It gives a view of the entire Circuit of the Americas race-track. Apparently it costs $35 for an elevator ride and 10 minutes up there watching the races. It doesn't look like it will have a view of the soccer stadium.
Makes for an interesting landmark though, like Saputo. Also, published an interview with Nick Swinmurn, the guy behind the San Fran USL bid today. Sharp guy, for pro/rel and understands the need to have a SSS. Actually gave me the impression that without a stadium, this isn't going to happen. http://www.americanpyramidblog.com/home/seals-soccer-san-francisco-nick-swinmurn-of-san-francisco-fc
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1497278860354609 Here's the current USL map, from the Vegas announcement video: 36 teams as of now. Of course we already know of many other possible expansion teams (SF, Memphis, Baltimore, DC2, and maybe Omaha, Boise, ABQ, Dallas2, El Paso, Cleveland, Tucson, etc.)...
I only get 35. There are 30 teams now plus 2018: Fresno, Las Vegas, Nashville 2019: Austin, Birmingham Am I missing someone? And we'll have to see if anyone else leaves by 2019.
Wasn't it D2 leagues by August, D3 leagues by September? So that USSF could evaluation each separately? Maybe you were just talking about D2 ... but for some reason I thought I read/saw where the D3 leagues had until September.
I think it's for all of them, but know you have me doubting myself. On an interesting note, I've USL D3 keeps posting interviews with AO Chapters in City XYZ talking about how it will make a great city for a D3 team. Released one with Little Rock today. Rangers are already in discussions with NISA, and might even start play in the league next year. This is part of why I hate expansion pieces by the leagues themselves. I get they're trying to drum up support, but sometimes it's best to keep quiet. On the other hand, not a fan of how quiet NISA is being with expansion news, but they're probably worried about USL trying to swoop in claim markets out from under them.
You'll notice that USL is the only league that "drums up support" with news releases and interviews like this. I imagine there's a reason they are so deliberate and public, but I don't know what that reason is.
Well, being very public when you don't have a lot going on makes you look weak and foolish after all of the hubub, bluster and promotion dies down. Think Peterson/old Cosmos ownership and now Silva (his team is doing fine but they are certainly bleeding money). When you are very public, and you have a thriving, fairly stable growing concern...which certainly applies to USL over the last few years...then it can simply be construed as confidence and promoting to all that this is the place to be. Just some thoughts.
USL is clearly winning the lower division battle over the last few years, so of course they're going to be public about all this... I should have kept reading!
El Paso a possibility againhttp://www.elpasoinc.com/news/local...cle_19b9f8a0-90ce-11e7-b84d-3b04a93b2859.html
USL about to get bigger with NASL cast offs as that league seemingly comes to an end? Several current and future #NASL clubs, led by North Carolina FC, are apparently mulling a move to #USL.— Fifty Five One (@FiftyFiveOne) September 5, 2017
