I donno if you're being serious or not, but Simeon Jackson at this point is probably our best forward player...which isn't necessarily bad, as he is the first choice winger of newly promoted Norwich. I mean he had 13 goals in 39 games for Norwich in their 2nd place championship finish...and championship or not, for a winger that's pretty solid.
Lets be rational. You're saying this because of the leagues most of the players on our roster play in. Now lets rationalize a little bit more...most of those leagues are better than the league Donovan plays in. I'm not saying we're going to win, and my 1-1 prediction is even pretty optimistic on my part (yeah, odds are we'll lose)...but let's try not to get ahead of ourselves here.
No one joins sam army any more; I noticed you joined Bigsoccer in 2011 newb. It will be a close game.
He's eligible for Jamaica too. His future is up in the air. But I believe he's on record to leaning for Canada.
I was being serious. Simeon Jackson is a great footballer. He may have been in the championship, but our best Centerback in the World Cup (Demerit) was in the championship for most of his career. Simeon Jackson almost singlehandedly got Norwich to the prem, too.
I think its a fair to say that Canada's players are accomplished and are better than they are given credit for, any USA fan should understand that because it wasn't long ago most all our guys played in MLS or small lower leagues/teams abroad. But i also think its fair for Americans to expect to beat Canada without oo much trouble. That confidence is founded on winning two consecutive Hex's, two of the last 3 Gold Cups, making the knock out round at the last World Cup and most telling: Mar 16 91 W 2-0 Canada 4,000 Torrance, CA, USA (NAC) Sep 03 92 W 2-0 Canada 3,500 St. John's, Canada Oct 09 92 D 0-0 Canada 2,097 Greensboro, NC, USA Mar 03 93 D 2-2 Canada 5,743 Costa Mesa, CA Jun 21 93 W 3-0 Canada +Pontiac, MI, USA Mar 16 97 W 3-0 Canada 28,896 Palo Alto, CA, USA(WCQ) Nov 09 97 W 3-0 Canada 8,420 Vancouver, BC, Canada(WCQ) Jan 30 02 W 0-0 Canada (4-2 PK) 7,241 Pasadena, CA, USA (GC ’02) Jan 18 03 W 4-0 Canada 6,549 Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA Jul 09 05 W 2-0 Canada 15,109 Seattle, WA, USA (GC ’05) Jan 22 06 D 0-0 Canada 6,077 San Diego, CA, USA Jun 21 07 W 2-1 Canada 50,760 Chicago, IL (GC’07) W- 9 D- 3 L- 0 GD- +20. Canada has only scored 3 goals in 12 games since 1991 agaionst the Americans and have not beaten them. So why would USA fans expect not to get a result?
His situation is lot like many players in the world who have dual-citizenships or they're very close to being naturalized in a certain country where they can be counted as a domestic player. The player doesn't want to committ but at the same time, the national team manager cannot wait forever.
DAMN IT! someone had told me the game was in the midwest, i had no idea it was in Detroit. I live in Windsor ONtario and could be at Ford Field in 30minutes... and i can't even get it on cable here.... oh well, here's hoping for a good game, a fair result, and quality refereeing (generally a problem for Canada)
Then go. It's not sold out. Only 25,000 tickets sold. There's plenty of room for you. BTW, for those of us east coasters, Michigan IS the midwest.
WTF! Why is Ream starting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nothing against him but he is too young, same with Agudelo. As for only 25K tickets being sold, just plain pathetic as usual Concacaf. UMMMMM. SEATTLE? Right on the border and every single seat would've been sold out. Already mls on each side of the border so you can build off that!
nah, too late but it would've been nice. My girl has my car and it'd take about an hour and a half to cross the border and get to Ford Field by bus.... hopefully it'd be a good game.. and Detroit is the Midwest? I remember when i was a kid in Toronto and the Tigers were in the AL East and the Red Wings were in the East.... maybe the continents shifted
Windsor is literally across the river from detroit...i can see Detroit right now from my apartment and could probably throw a ball at the GM building (ok a bit of an exaggeration).......but windsor is small with only 400k people... supposedly a lot of Canadians have gone to Detroit today though
I hate to bitch but the attendance for this sort of match on the border of both countries is just plain disgraceful. I'm not blaming Detroit, I'm blaming whoever chose the venue. Chicago and Seattle would have been SUPERIOR choices
I think it was smart to put it on the border but why would you chose somewhere with a small city and not 2 major cities in the US and Canada? Look at the attendance it's just sad
