Here is an article on ARN about the new Super League structure.

    http://www.americanrugbynews.com/artman/publish/super_league/New_structure_for_Super_League.shtml

    Super League tweaks structure

The Rugby Super League has realigned its conferences for the 2009 season to structure the competition more along geographic boundaries.

The RSL also has pared down its conferences from three to two - Red and Blue.

The Red Conference is basically a Western zone, while the Blue Conference is largely an Eastern split, and unlike the last couple of years, there will be no inter-conference matchups during the regular season.

The league also has reduced the number of teams to 16 with each conference consisting of eight teams, to make adjustments for the dropping of Washington and Philadelphia-Whitemarsh from the competition.

The 2009 regular season is set to start on Saturday, March 14. It will be a seven-game schedule with a break over the Easter weekend and a make-up weekend set aside in early May to allow for any postponed games to be played prior to the playoffs.

The quarterfinals are scheduled to be played on May 16, with the semifinals a week later and the championship game on May 30.

Reigning champions New York AC will open their title defense at home against Boston, while runners-up Belmont Shore will be at home to the Chicago Lions, a team they eliminated in the 2008 semis.

    Red Conference
    Santa Monica
    Belmont Shore
