Was thinking the same thing. Torres would do will in that trio of center mids.

We have the personnel for it tomorrow, even. Swap Dempsey for Adu, Hejduk for Wynne. Put in Ching if you think Altidore isn't ready or isn't game fit for 90. It even solves the Beasley question.

Would be great to see this in a friendly, but it's probably too experimental for tomorrow.

    I'd LOVE to see:

    --------------Ching-----------------
    -------------Dempsey---------------
    --Torres-----------------Donovan---
    -----------Kljestan-Clark------------
    -Boca----Hejduk---Gooch---Wynne

I think the Midfield tandem will be heads and shoulders above any midfield we've fielded in terms of creativity.

The current left side of defense is highly susceptible. I was thinking since boca has already been playing on the left with his club, maybe he would fit right in. The center is lacking speed, so I thought sticking Hejduk would be ok since he's a long time veteran in the back. Keep boca back, and give wynne free reign to roam up and down the right side.

He did slam one off the post in the Gold Cup Final, no?

No, I thought it was a foul on Ching in the box, then Donovan converted the penalty. Feilhaber got the 2nd (Absolutely beautiful I might add) goal with his laser-like shot off the loose ball on a corner kick.

Oh I see what he meant. Not off the post and into the goal. But they don't count those "close" goals. :D So the other poster might be right...but perhaps Ching could score one tomorrow and prove him wrong.

So Ching is capable of almost scoring against Mexico.

Yep, Ching had a lot to do, did it and hit the post from an awkward angle.
DMB just missed a sitter. Both were frustrating.

This one still aches to think about and is all-time #1 in my book of frustrating near goals:

To be fair, Beasley's didn't really end up anywhere near a goal.

Ching is most capable of setting up a teammate for a goal, a la Kljestan against Sweden.

The US also has quite a height advantage on set pieces, and Ching could easily score that way.

    Ruh Roh....

If all stays same, WC 2010 US squad will be a paltry ~26.3 yrs while Mexico will be ~28.3.
Mr. Martin can tell you what that means.

    LOL.

But really, I care more about how many players fall within ages 25 to 30. The average is meaningless if the team is composed of a bunch of 22 year olds and a bunch of 33 year olds.

The age profile for the current US player pool is OK for 2010, but potentially perfect for 2014.

So if we add Kyle Rote Jr. to the squad, we should have the perfect average age to win the Cup!!
