well the roster is pretty straight forward, just interesting not too see Adu on the roster. Freddy is a player that could come in later if we need him to, he might be missed.
I'm curious how rogers has earned a call up over adu? Did bradley even watch the games against argentina and spain?
I don't think Rogers will make the final 18. The player who nosed out Adu is Davies. The two cuts in getting down from 20 to 18 are likely to be Rogers and one of Bornstein/Pearce/Wynne.
Different positions. Rogers is at LM I am sure Bradley would have loved to have not been forced to call in bench warmer Heath Pearce, but Bob's hands are tied with certain players at certain positions.
Good point about Rogers, it's a real possibility. Just brought him along because he is a local, and it's better than bringing in Adu from France if you have no intention of playing him.
I would've like to see Orozco get a call over califf. Suprised about rogers getting a call. regardless of how I feel about this roster we will still win
why? yea he's in season but califf has always been number three and the Sweden performance makes him a lock for the bench
My main concern on Wednesday, if things do not go well early in the match, will be to see if Bradley has any "cover" if we fail to produce not just goals, but clear chances as the game moves on to the latter stages IF Mexico is trying to hold on to a favorable result.... whether in front or tied....We'll have to wait and see i guess.....
Settle down, nobody's complaining here. At least I'm not, anyway. Just pointing out a couple of absences who happened to play in our last game (Sweden).
Flipstar, Orozco and San Luis have a Copa Libertadores game, I believe its away, on Wed. Maybe that influenced BB decision not to call him in this time.
Because he plays against these guys every week. Califf played against a sweden B team. Califf is a quality CB but I'd rather have someone who has experience playing against mexicans. Torres get called so why not Orozco.
Pretty solid stuff. Though I'm surprised no Adu. The Dolo injury hurt him, if he was healthy, Hejduk would be cover for both sides, and Wynne and Bornstein would likely both be home (or at least one of them), and there would be room for Freddy. Still, I'll take Adu over Davies any day, though they are different players. Davies is late game speed, as is Rogers. Still, Adu is capable of more magic than anyone on the roster, except LD, I'd want him out there if we need a goal.
After Bradley called Parkhurst in out of desperation for the Sweden match (something I'm sure he wasn't originally intending to do) and interrupted his acclimation to his new setting, I'm guessing Bradley agreed not to pull him out again just to have him as a third or fourth choice centerback on the bench.
That would make some sence but i doubt it because playing for your country let alone against in the hex is the most important thing.
I'm assuming that our offensive subs if we fall behind are Altidore and Davies. Interesting that these two offensive players who sat the bench in the Olympics are here and Adu, who had a strong Olympics and strong appearances vs good teams last year, is not.
Our roster is really starting to take shape. The only place that seems to be wide-open is both fullback positions. It'll be interesting to see how a healthy Frankie Simek and a healthy, in-form Jon Spector will affect that. Obviously a hot hand could force some of the attacking positions. Regular playing time for Edu and Adu - or god help me, Benny Feilhaber - could shake things up as well. But, after so much uncertainty post-WC, it's surprising how unsurprising this roster is. If anything, the biggest surprise is the re-emergence of Danny Califf. I dont think too many people picked him as the 3rd center back c. 2007.
No one has mentioned the omission of Maurice Edu. Is everyone on BS in consensus that Ricardo Clark is a better player than him? I'm certainly not. He played against AC Milan a week ago and from all reports seemed to have held his own. But you know Bob Bradley, he likes to reward the players that go through January camp with him (though I bet Rangers team practices are just as intense if not more demanding). That would also explain why he picked Califf over Demerit, when Demerit is clearly the better player. (Which one has spent a season in the English Premiership and which has not?)
Honestly, it's not surprising at all. Last year, it was said that the time to experiment had come and gone without any experimenting. So now we have what we have...
I think he brought in Rogers because he recognizes the potential. Kid was an MLS Allstar, Best Eleven etc., has pace and is two footed and can do this: http://columbus.crew.mlsnet.com/med..._id=19997&catCode=top_plays&type=v_free&_mp=1 He has a decent shot at the bench because of his versatility and eventuallly with experience could be just what is needed.
I mention it in the post above. He hasn't played (basically) since he went to Scotland. And he looked rusty in his last appearance for us. We can't have rusty central midfielders; we have hard enough time controlling the ball as it is. If he gets run in the 2009/2010 season, he could very well start in the World Cup. No one's writing him off.
