It was 570,000 not long ago. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...nd-odierno-budget-cuts-sequestration/4595003/ If the cuts are on the back line, that's one thing. Front line Brigade Combat Teams were already being reduced from 45 to 32: http://www.armytimes.com/article/20130625/NEWS/306250042/Army-announces-10-brigade-combat-teams-cut
And it looks like this guy won't be among them! http://www.newsmax.com/newswidget/g...utm_medium=nmwidget&utm_campaign=widgetphase1
The cuts shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Last time we reduced the force we eventually ended up back in Iraq and Afghanistan. I expected them but maybe not at the expense of combat capable troops. Logistics and Intel sure. Kind of an extreme action by the Army. I understand where they are coming from but now anyone regardless of grandfathering is pretty much screwed out of a long term career based on how I interpreted the article. That's the Army for you.
