Something is going to happen on June 9th https://www.mediamoves.com/2019/04/televisa-and-univision-to-merge-sports-divisions.html Other rumors are about an app that will be available in Canada, US and Mexico with lots of sports programing, I guess it's wait and see.
Well it's not June 9th yet but there are some announcements: https://www.sportsvideo.org/2019/05...collaborate-on-re-branded-univision-deportes/
Looking at those press releases, I don't really know what we are getting that doesn't exist already. Univision networks have almost every LigaMX match. This year Fox Deportes had one match (often aired on an English language Fox channel as well) and ESPN Deportes would simulcast a match that was also on Univision Networks. The second division could be added but right now some of those games are on GOL (not HD) and ESPN+. Univision Deportes2 never took off because Univision didn't have enough content. Unless they add more matches, what we're really looking at is more news/highlights programs and who wants to pay more money for that?
For someone who lived in Mexico, I can tell you that the talent that's going to be brought over is brilliant and mad funny. Looking forward to seeing these guys and beautiful women take on the Gold Cup and other stuff. The new programming should be new and good too.
There is a question " Subscribers to participating pay-TV services in the U.S. will now have live access to all of TUDN’s exclusive soccer matches through TUDNxtra." It sounds like TUDNxtra is just replacing the current univision.com/deportes page to watch matches but there is no mention how the matches will be handled. Up until now, we needed authorization to watch matches that were broadcast on any of the Univision channels. But other matches did not need authorization. The question now is how will they handle matches that are not being broadcast. Hard not to think there is a pay streaming service down the line... SA www.soccertvblog.com
Nope. It was mentioned that TUDNXtra will be free for those who has TUDN with their TV providers. It just depends on who signs up on that side of things for this...
Subscribers to TUDN through participating pay-TV services will have access to this content through the TUDN app on a wide range of devices, as well as through their set-top box, at no additional charge. One major pay-TV provider has already signed on to carry both TUDNxtra and Zona Futbol, with more agreements expected in the coming months. Both services are slated to launch at the start of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League season in September. I expect that the one provider that will give access through the set-top-box will be Dish Network, they just signed a new contract with them, probably why the negotiations took so long to the point Univsion was pull off the system for a few months.
This is a long term visionary plan, their have been comments by the leadership of future World Cup aspirations. They have not said anything but a believe they are looking at the Spanish LaLiga when it becomes available not sure but I think late 2020.
https://www.si.com/tech-media/2018/11/13/hispanic-latino-soccer-fan-purchasing-power-influence Universal knew that in order to attract the attention of the U.S.–Hispanic market—which boasts the highest movie-going rate among any other ethnic group in the nation and a purchasing power close to $2 trillion—it had to also incorporate the interest of the Hispanic and Mexican soccer fan, given the timeliness of El Tri’s participation at the World Cup. They know the potential of the Latino American TV viewer, Mexican soccer is the only one right now that can survive on advertising alone without the need for Pay Per View.
