Segura was called up. Moreno, Mattocks and Asad aren't getting callups (Venezuela isn't playing this window).
Does this suggest Harkes might get a start? I also wouldn't mind Mullins in midfield, as I believe it suits his game. Also, I would like to see more of Durkin in the Moreno slot.
The result wasn’t great, but I enjoy watching this group much more than those in the last few years. It won’t happen I don’t think, but the 3-5-2 is becoming much more appealing to me. Especially after seeing Mora and his defensive chops. Stieber and Asad inverted on the wings. Mullins looked great with his hold up play too.
If we went to a 3-5-2 I would like to see a midfield of Asad, Stieber, Acosta, Segura, and Arriola. No need to platoon Stieber and Arriola. Stieber and Asad can switch inside/outside as play dictates. This keeps Stieber and his excellent dead ball services on the pitch together with the speedy Arriola.
I would worry about having no 6 with this lineup and our backline. I think you need a guy like Durkin or Canouse (gets stuck in and plays out directly) more than you need Segura. But my preference would be to have a traditional 6-8-10 with Durkin, Segura and Acosta, and use Stieber as underneath instead of Mullins.
Don't judge MLS play by DC United. The quality of play in the League is improving by leaps and bounds. FWIW, I have seen lots of crap play in the Prem outside of my Man City this season.
Relax man. It's a one-off. Still, it shows how much the relationship with RFK has soured to the point where DCU would rather play at a venue that would not / does not qualify as Division 1 level.
No disagreement -- but Liverpool is the team I follow in the Prem, so it was an easy choice with both games being on at the same time.
Finally watched the replay last night. We didn't play quite as bad as I thought we did watching it live. I did have a pretty bad angle for much of the first half on the grass against the wall so that probably tainted my attitude for the second half ;-) I liked much of what I saw, but it would look better at full speed, seemed like we were at practice walking thru the movements - but it was a marked improvement over last year as far as midfielders getting in position for passes and I did actually see some passes being made to runners - I think mainly by Acosta - once Mattocks knows he can make those forward runs and stop stopping and looking back for the ball, we might get somewhere. I was very impressed by Durkin and Mora.
They added a bench, so we might get more players named to the Team of the Week this year https://www.dcunited.com/node/27462
you're kidding, right? Because that should be straight sarcasm, I might be missing it He was everywhere and did a ton to stop attacks that tried to go thru him, he even cleared one off the line when the GK was beat. I'm no giant fan of "Fall Down" Beasley - but he played very well in that match. Especially for a guy my age
Thanks. I'm not the only poster here who thought that there was some high stratospheric-level sarcasm going on that I just couldn't get.
Another lofty award from this game, we get Ale's Assist of the Week (twice) http://www.espnfc.com/video/espn-fc-tv/86/video/3426181
There were people on that field Saturday who were in diapers when Beasley was playing in his first World Cup.
Obviously, I was too engrossed in watching Stieber to pay much attention to Beasley. (This is a routine failing: I watch our guys so intently that it takes a world-class effort from an opponent to catch my attention - for example, Meram in the Orlando match.) Apparently he had an outstanding game. Of course, at his age and with his years in the game he should get recognition every time he steps on the pitch.
I remember him running down a DCU player and thinking "he's not supposed to be able to do that at his age"
