Truth is, Mexico is basically qualified, and we've never been in doubt of making it either, even if as #3. Hopefully we'll meet in the R16 to see what happens. Now, that would be a do-or-die game, "for reals."
anyone want to do a PBP on Twellman's outfit out there? I think he might be a two way player. He ever spend time as a switch hitter in college? He might play for the other team. Maybe still takes part in bi-weekly past times.
Let's all just be happy that we have one true rivalry left in sports where we can feel true animosity and hatred and still show some composure. Salcedo's elbow was a criminal act. I would put him in jail. Otherwise? Just a good old fashion rivalry where hatred simmers right on top. I wish we had more of them.
Breh, that bulge was noticeable his whole career. Even Paige flirted with him recently, and he's now an old geezer. Just goes to show you, chico, that when you ooze machismo, you will be well endowed. Even tho schlomo brought up penises. But it's all good, this game was so shit, we can keep talking about anatomy. On to the Confederations Cup, let's all support the CONCACAF rep this time.
Good point on the road against a superior team. We were a bit fortunate that Mexico's crossing and shooting was absolutely horrendous in the second half. If they play like that they will get annihilated by Portugal in my opinion but that is for another thread. And for those of you who do not like Bradley I think he made a statement to you guys yesterday.
A mexican poster (I won't quote his post) posted this a couple days before the game... "Quick bet: $200 Parlay, Moneyline +260, easy $520 Golden State by more than 8.5 Mexico by more than 1 No-brainer." Wonder how that turned out for him...the circle jerking around mexican football over there is incredible.
Without even looking I can guess what most of their thread is like. Poster #1 : "Blah, blah , blah , blah , blah Nads." Poster #2 " Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah Bunker." Poster #3 "Blah, blah , blah , blah , blah durrrrrrr uh nads bunker." Laugh, Rinse, Repeat.
Americans aren't the ones treating them like rats and idiots...it's their own government treating them that way. Its the cartels treating them that way.
In a way the Mexican fan is admirable: he has a full narrative in his head, ready-made to excuse any defeat, and to paint the world as a giant conspiracy against their "raza." From the "no era penal" to blaming the Colombian for the 7-0, their own people are incapable of fault in their eyes. No matter what they do, no matter how many FIFA rules they break, they will always find an excuse. They're always using the "our culture is so complex no one can understand why what seem insulting words and bad habits are in reality not so" line, because their whole world view is profoundly ethnocentric, and they assume everybody else is exactly like that as well.
Not sure why people are calling this an ugly point, best I have seen the US play at Azteca possibly ever. With some better finishing, or closing down, we could have easily come away with three points. Of course Mexico could say the same thing so a draw is probably a fair result. Da Bruce has done his job, won the two must wins and got the bonus point in Mexico. Crisis has passed now lets just finish it.
I pull for Mexico because I want my friends to be happy and I like the FMF and the players on el tri in general, but it's hard to pull for them as some representative of concacaf because Mexican fans are so arrogant and confrontational in general. World soccer is a great way to get to know people from other cultures and Mexico is the only group of fans I have seen that want to bully and fight fans from smaller nations like Honduras to establish their manhood. Then when things don't go their way they can't handle it graciously, it turns into a fit. If it was Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, or Jamaica I might even buy a shirt and Id tune in to all of their games. For Mexico? I'll hope that they finally learn the lesson that they have the wrong kind of pride.

Does anyone know if any sports tv show or radio show mentioned this game today? I watched a few and it was all about basketball, not even a word about MEX vs USA, even on FS1. If a World Cup qualifying game against Mexico is ignored, it's pretty hopeless.
Also the Penguins won their second straight Stanley Cup. Good news is though more people were watching last night's Soccer match (combined English and Spanish) than were watching the clinching Stanley Cup game.
Not much you can do about that. The mainstream US sports media hates soccer with a passion and has tried to discredit and sabotage it here at every turn.
No doubt... Its gonna be awhile before that changes and we will need a few great showings in the World Cup to make it happen... at least with mainstream.
