Costa Rica isn't typical CONCACAF pressure. They're the best at it in the region between their organization, mobility, and aggression. Mexico relies on possession. And frankly nobody else is nearly as good. We just played the 3rd next best CONCACAF side. In fairness this is Costa Rica B.

It's preseason for the guys. They're looking alright. The lineup could do with an injection of pace.

At around 25', I decided to open up my laptop and started submitting scanned receipts to my FSA for purposes of reimbursement of my 2018 out-of-pocket medical expenses.

    It's been enthralling.

Good. He’s invisible even when on the bench, hopefully it stays that way until he’s out of the 18.

Gyasi's lack of pace has killed a couple of counters.

Stating the obvious: this system and the inherent mutations that get built into it as the sample size increases will take time to be fully characterized.

What I'm interested in is which players make a statement to work in the system; the ones who can push the system to change; the ones that evolve. Certainly athleticism and technical skills will be really important. But this is a step forward for US soccer learning to play strategically. Most of what all our previous coaches have done is based on reactive tactics. They didn't have a vision of the game. This is an interesting growth curve.

They always out-athlete us. It is amazing how slow we look next to them, even when we win (with the exception of the 4 goal Gold Cup victory).

This is not Costa Rica B. Costa Rica B would have Smith, Matarrita, Vega, Leal, George, etc.

Arriola on the left was a head scratcher for a DC United fan, but he actually delivered some nice left-footed crosses. Maybe he's more versatile that I thought. But leaving Canouse out of the team requires a GB explanation.

Open look from 10 yards that he skewed wide left. Wasn't close.
