He can't play the ball forward. I have no clue what he does well enough to even get near January camp, much less earn 11 caps in the last year.
I generally like the idea of trying McKennie and Adams in front of Canouse. But if GB isn't gonna play Canouse then Adams better be our DM. I have a real concern GB rates Bradley and Trapp as our top two DM's and that is going to be a real problem vs any decent competition. Twellman's repeated Adams at RB talk last game suggests that might be the plan.
Mihailovic & Lovitz having a tough time. Ticos aren’t making things easy. Do some coaching Beerholder.
Right. Pre formed opinions in the second game during a January camp. Typical knee jerk reactions on this forum. All I'm saying is give the man some time before you lynch him.
I think he's deluded with how aggressive his passing is, or this is how he's informed to play. Bradley played very positive last game, making those passes in between the lines, and hitting diagonals, albeit under less (complicated) pressure. Allowed the 10's to play higher, closer, and have more predictable options. It wouldn't resolve all problems by replacing Trapp, but I think many would go away because that's where the defense and offense is starting out of. Yeah, ideally we wouldn't revert back to playing Bradley, but if he helps us evaluate much of the rest of the team better, you gotta bite the bullet. He's the best we have available almost certainly after Canouse was left out of the squad.
I see Adams and McKennie as the CMs in front of Trapp/Bradley. I can't see them benching Yedlin. I'm with you on the DM dilemma. Trapp and Bradley can't play at a high level. Bradley could do fine against bad CONCACAF teams, but Trapp can't even do that.
really on display the way that some of these guys struggle in possession when facing an athletic team that can pressure.
I warned about this in the postgame Panama thread. Panama was a beer league team. And yet, we (and guys like Alexi just now) continued to rate our players from the game as if they played anyone of consequence.
Lalas ironically praises Trapp, the biggest individual reason the team is dysfunctional, for his first half performance. You can tell they're just given ahead of time who to market.
CR has been a much better test. They are a lot quicker to the ball so our players have less time and space and it shows. Panama was just too S L O W and ponderous to be a benchmark. Mihailovic is showing as a poor passer under typical CONCACAF pressure.
Im listening to these talking points by Lalas and I think they are laying down a foundation to look past players that ' dont fit the Berhalter system'. Lalas said that playing well somewhere doesnt necessarily mean that you will fit in. This could get ugly. So we are just supposed to trust these guys evaluation of a player. Its scary. We saw how that went for Gall with GB.
There were two players on that team with more than 3 caps, and one of those two was Fidel Escobar, who sucks so much that he couldn't even get game time for RBNY II. Getting anything out of that game other than "hey that was fun to watch" was, and is, totally bonkers.
Even if we scrap by with a 1-0 win in the 80', let's be honest: watching our team is a chore. No wonder few are willing to pay for the honor.
Tactically we looked ok. Guys aren’t getting caught out of position and are trying to build out a bit. They are making the right decisions- but the passing and the collection is crap. Effort we looked ok. Technically was pretty poor. Does this surprise anyone? Do you expect a new coach with a bunch of average players to suddelnly come out of a 3 week camp and look like instant world beaters? We are what we are for now. You can make a cow run, but it will never be a horse.
Not just yet... Have to see what he does and who he plays when the Euros join the team. Lets just say, im a little concerned
