Home/Away Western Games this year based on last years schedule: Home: Dallas Sounders Rapids Dynamo Timbers Away: Earthquakes Galaxy Whitecaps Salt Lake Kansas City Mystery: Minnesota???? Hoping Kansas City lands on a good day for me... would like to make that away trip.
I guess with expansion, there will just be fewer Eastern teams that we play 3 times? That's a good thing IMO.
34 game schedule would mean 3 "extra rivalry" games.... total speculation, but I'd guess our 3 "extra" games will be DC, RB and NE.... or maybe NYCFC... last year we had 3 games against: Crew Chicago Orlando DCU Montreal Red Bull
Crew - 3 wins Chicago - 1 win, 2 losses Orlando - 1 win, 1 tie, 1 loss DCU - 2 wins, 1 tie Montreal - 2 ties, 1 loss Red Bull - 1 tie, 2 losses
We're locked in with teams like RBNY and DCU for three games as long as that unbalanced schedule continues. #mlsrivalries
Once we hit 24 teams it will go away.... soooo likely 2018.... but expansion beyond 24 will probably lead to divisions of some sort, so it will come back.
Someone will have fun working out all the combinations, but there are too many teams in the 'Acela Cup' region for them all to be rivalry games, and the others in the conference need to have 3rd games against somebody. The joys of an unbalanced schedule. Add in the way the Open Cup is organized and I get tired of playing those teams pretty quick.
IT IS HERE http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/schedule They're coming to you on Sept 9th @Handsome Pete
We play DCU, MTL, and RBNY thrice We play TFC, ORL, NYC, NER, CLB, ATL, and CHI twice We play VAN, POR, LAG, HOU, COL, RSL, SKC, FCD, SJE, MNU, and SEA once (all the Western Conf teams)
my preliminary list of targets for "new" away trips...... Los Angeles - April 29th Salt Lake - May 27th San Jose - August 19th Atlanta - September 27th decisions, decisions....
