Young was signed over Sanchez (udinese) .. eventually we got both of them and both of them have been shi8 ..
Lol Young wasnt signed over Sanchez. Young was signed because we couldnt get Sanchez and because he was cheap.
What we've learned (or rather had confirmed) from United's loss at the Camp Nou. https://thebusbybabe.sbnation.com/2...ited-three-things-we-learned-champions-league
I think we were in talks but we backed out coz Sanchez was around 42£million and SAF rumbling along with glazers with his famous "No value for money" lines.. and young was preferred coz he was cheap as in cheap altogether...
We were never seriously in for Sanchez in 2011. It never was a matter of AY or Sanchez. Sanchez was always going to Barca. They ended up paying less than 30mil Euros for him (which is around 26mil Pounds). There were rumors about him coming to United, but we were never close then: that was the reality for better or for worse.
Ashur has it right. For a player like Sanchez, it was a no-brainer going to Barcelona over United. I recall lots of talk about Sanchez, but it was never in the cards.
From what i can remember we were in for him but retreated coz of Udinese higher valuation of Sanchez.. Anyways we ended up getting that fexking clown (young)... and somehow he has survived Fergie, Moyes, LVG, Mou and now Ole..
Again, it was not a Sanchez or AY choice. We were never in seriously for Sanchez: Udinese probably put it out there that we were interested to hurry Barca into making the deal. They paid 26mil Euros for him: imagine that if we were really in for him, Udinese probably would have gotten more from Barca. The whole "we were close to Sanchez" story is a myth that has been expanded upon to conveniently support the belief that AY, who most fans have never taken to, was the cause of us not getting him which simply does not make sense...
Given that side would be dealing with Messi, I get why Ole started Young - given the dearth of LB options without Shaw. However what baffles me is he went with Jones at LCB rather than Lindelof (who was LCB in the first leg). Shaw/Lindelof is so much >>>> than Young/Jones! Against Messi ffs! Young is enough of a forced downgrade on Shaw to compound it by electing to downgrade from Lindelof to Jones.
The defending is only one aspect of his awfulness. He gave the ball away more than anyone else in the field. He's a defensive liability with the ball at his feet. It's that bad .
both of you are right. that first goal came from young not able to simply pass out of a press and turning it over. From there, Jones decided that it was best to let Messi cut in onto his preferred left and then drop off because there was a runner. The runner is not the 2nd best player in the world, nor is he gonna be more dangerous 10 yards from goal and an acute angle versus Messi in full flight at the top of the box. It was a joke of a defense!
Hard to argue with this unfortunately. Messi masterclass = 1⃣⚽️#UCL #GOTW @NissanFootball pic.twitter.com/eCKAIWpE7S— UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) April 19, 2019
He recently turned down an offer from Barcelona too. He convinced Ten Hag to stay and as such feels the obligation to be there too.
